367 MJ/hr Miata
Hello everyone, my name is Kory. I have a fully built 1991 1.8L orgional 1.6 block miata running on 20 psi of boost. I have wrenched, and wrenched on this car day in and out. If you are attempting a turbo project and need some advice or help, let me know, I've see and done it all, even tunned my megasquirt myself with a AFR in boost @ 11.1-11.2. Im not a firm believer in swapping motors for a V8, if your gonna go that rout thats fine, however, save a couple more thousand dollars and buy a mustang then or camaro.. Just my opinion. Like I said, if you need help, let me know. Good luck to everyone, zoom zoom zoom.

welcome, we are happy to have. But first before you can do anything we need more details on your car. What turbo, internals, charge cooling, and gas are you running? Location and a little details about your car are always helpful to put in your sig btw.

Most of the pics can be found in my profile photo album, running FIC 750cc injectors, 15g greddy turbo.Yes buffon, the walls are thin, but they still have enuff left to hold the boost, i've done a lot of research in how I went about building my miata. This is my 3rd miata. I love them. 15g turbo putting out 20 psi boost, come to manchester iowa and I will show you, 367 whp not 397whp like you said braineack, car is also running on E85 w/750cc injectors. Turbo is at it's max, anything else you don't believe? Videos soon to come on youtube!!

440 cfm is what the turbo will do by itself, now consider 9:1 compression, E85, 3in. exhaust, on a 20 bar map and 750cc injectors on 255 walboro fuel pump. You do the math.. Want the number for the dyno shop??

Excuse me for my error!!!!!! Just called the dyno shop, they said 357 max hp, not whp. Sorry, i was not at the dyno shop when they ran it. 318 ft lbs of toque.

Lower compression and higher octane do not allow for a turbo to make more power than its capable of on higher compression and lower octane. If you think that then you obviously have no fucking clue about how an engine really works. Go ahead and post the number for the shop, I will call them tomorrow and ask them how they violated the laws of physics. One of 2 things happened here, 1) Youre full of shit and you came in here trying to be a hot shot, little did you know that many people on here know a LOT more than you. This aint honda-tech. 2) The shop that tuned/dyno'ed your car lied to you about your power numbers and used a big correction factor on the dyno numbers because they know your a fucking idiot and dont know any better. |

So at 20 psi that would be a PR of 2.36 and 464.625 cfm right? Or did i fail at my calculations? If so.............. Isn't there something terribly wrong with this?

Just because the data point is off the map doesn't mean it can't be done or won't do it. If it is off on the left side then it is in compressor surge and won't really work. If it is off the right side it is just building lots of heat because it is outside the efficiency island. I ran a T3-60 off the map on the right side some on my last car. No problems. E85 would be very forgiving of high IAT's. So it Methanol. I have datalogs from compound compressors running up to 70 PSI with meth with 400+ F air intake temps. No problems.... FWIW. If you are really interested I can run the calcs through turbocalc, but I don't know what a 15G compares to on the Garret/AI line of compressors. |

Ok just for a rough go at it...
7500 RPM 85 % VE @ 7500 RPM 20 PSI 100% Compressor Efficiency 100% IC Efficiency 70 F Air temp 1800 CC All that = 475 CFM 33.67 Lb/min 365 HP (gross) 256 fl/lbs @ 7500 RPM Of course if the compressor is at 50% efficiency the air temp raises to 361 F and with an 80% IC efficiency it brings it back down to 129 F. This reduces power to 330 HP. Perhaps that is optimistic? That is barely on the map for a T-3 60 if that helps any. But it is on the map and about 65% efficient. Just a little better than the 15G map that was posted. |
