Default Akira means "bright" or "excited"

While I can't produce a piece nearly as entertaining as Sam's stickied Ultimate noob Post, I'll give it a shot at dedoobing:

Hi! I am aurion_zephyr. I have come into the possession of a lovely little 1993 long nose NA 1.6L miot, with 92kmi on the odometer.

It was owned by a grandpa until he died and went to yata heaven, where the AC vents don't sag. The car got passed to father and son until I eventually bought it. Apparently it was too sentimental to drive more than once a month.

thing's crazy stock. Like PRISTINE. Usually there's that joke about a Miata wanting to die as its 9th owner runs his hand through his broccoli hair and hums the Initial D theme song. But in my case, I feel like this Miata has grown bored of retired life and craves the horsepower that was its birthright.

I named it Akira and here's a pic:

I've been on a notification watchlist for the FM super-n00b special turbo kit and finally got one! So I have about $5k worth of other parts coming to support a reliable boost build. This will be the first car I've ever boosted, so I was happy to be the schmuck to pay for the preengineered kit. Hey, FM can use the money for new CFD or something right? My plan is to do mods slowly over winter and spring and once I know the car runs reliably and flawlessly, I'll add the snail. I can't wait to join the crowd of those who added boost and got cats. 😂

Don't be a punk. Stop by and tell me what a world of pain I've now jumped into 😂

That car is super clean looking. Congrats! Good job dropping the coin on a well engineered kit and not throwing some eBay garbage at it. You'll fit in here just fine.

What engine management are you going with?

Thanks! I'm active on the BRZ/GR86 forums and it seems like this site is similarly alive and active. It sounds like you guys know about all there is to know about turbo miatas

as far as engine management, I'll stick to the kit-included Voodoo Box which uses stock ECU and injectors. If I want bigger gains, I can always upgrade these things later on, but right now nearly doubling WHP seems like enough!

The doodoo box will do the trick for sure, but leaves a lot on the table. If you aren't in CA or a state that requires the stock ECU id highly recommend a standalone down the line.

And make sure to run a wideband any way you go!!

Doubling the stock wheel hp numbers sounds like a lot at first, but you quickly get used to it. . Nevertheless, I agree that if you're willing to spend a little more money in the long run, starting with the "simple" bolt-in fueling solution is a decent way of getting your feet wet with the turbo bug.

As for Akira, I think it needs to be red.

Dude that thing looks so clean! Im a sucker for clean white NAs. Mine also was a similar-ish story. Bought it bone stock from an old guy that mainly drove it to church. I get what you mean how it probably feels bored of the retired life and craves the aftermarket. Haha.

When you start wrenching on it, you should really start a build thread! Im really kicking myself for not starting one sooner. Updating it with past projects from months/years ago just don't feel the same.

Welcome to the forum!

Incredibly rare nostalgia with that pic you posted holy cow! @_@ Thanks for the insight. It would seem that the turbo madness is like gravity. All it takes is a little push

thanks for the warm welcome! I will 100% start a build thread. Sounds like you understand my position exactly by the way. "What is the rarest Miata?" always stock; but that being said I fully intend to enjoy this car, not keep it as a showroom piece. Just as God and Tom Matano intended lol
