Default Another Miata Newb with pics.

I have to thank 96rdster for taking such good care of this car while he owned it. Made it easy for me to have a nice looking ride. I had been driving it for over a week in the cold and snow but wanted to take some pics before I cleaned it up and put it away for a while.

I purchased this car in Tampa on 12-26. Drove it home 1150 miles non-stop except for gas and potty breaks. The last 120 miles were hell because I had already driven for 16-17 hours and then hit snow. I had to drive slow and the roads were covered. There was no way in HELL I was going to ditch this thing 1.5 hours from home so it turned into 2.5 hours of slow going. Left at 2 PM Friday, got home at 6 am Sun morning.

My little Fuji F31FD can't match Doppelgangers S5 and skills, but I did my best with darkness quickly approaching and no tripod. I had to hand hold everything in about 15 degree temps. DAMN I was cold. Photoshop saved me some. These are my first attempt to make tone mapped or HDR images. Only one picture was taken. I'm using Photoshop 7. If there is no limit on the file size I could make them a little bit bigger.

Thanks for reading! Comments and tips are welcome!

Oh sweet! You got Stace's car. That's a very nice Miata.

He took great care of it and did (imo) some very tasteful mods.

Good luck with it...plan on doing much to it, or just enjoying it?

For now enjoying it and perhaps a few little things. Stace did a great job with the interior. I appreciate it more every day I drive it.

The wild temp swings we have here have the boost all over the place. I upped the boost cutoff to 200 KPa and had the car set at 13 PSI in 30 degree air. Then the other morning I backed the MBC off one notch because it was 15 degrees out. I thought I was hitting boost cutoff again, but I think it was spark blowout. It misfired a time or two during a 3rd gear pull but the log didn't show the injectors going off, just RPM fluctuating and the boost was about 195-ish KPa and rich enough. I'm only trying to run about 12 PSI but it seems to have a mind of it's own when the air changes. I've parked it for a while until the weather gets better. I also found out what it was like to have all 4 wheels off the ground at about 110 MPH.... Not something I'm looking to do again. Wasn't quite perfectly straight when it came down. Gave me a little squiggle on contact.

Car weighs 2600 lbs with me in it, a full tank of gas and is fairly even. 52% in front. It's no lightweight being a C-package with other goodies.

MS overboost protection will step in well before your actual max value. It has some kind of formula it runs to see if you're on your way to overboosting and steps in a little early.

Best to set it about 2psi above what you tune MBC for.
