Smile Back yard boost!! New junk Miata

Hey Guys,

I am brand new to this forum and don't know tons about lots.
I am currently building, fixing , upgrading my 1991 Miata in my garage. I have a back yard boosted miata that needs lots of love. I have owned the car twice and only now am I looking into what is all wrong and seeing all the corners cut by the installer. it is all fun but very frustrating at times.

I currently run 8psi of boost on some cheap turbo and I have low compression. Off with the head to replace valves and seals and inspect the block.

Any suggestions as to what i should look for or replace while i'm in there? I really would like to see 250 hp one day and not really anymore(says everyone). This car will be my daily driver.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Do a leak down test before you do anything else.

Is that something that can be done to the head and block separately? Like pressurize both head and block?

For 250 hp.

Refresh head
Inspect piston bores and pistons, if fine, hone bores, get new rings, bearings, seals, any forged rods. Assemble and send it.

Borka, can you recommend parts for this? Something that is fairly strong that will last a long time?

He didn't mention ECU, I fear he's running the stock ECU still. OP, get a Megasquirt or similar if you haven't already.

I feel like this might get expensive for you pretty quickly, what's your budget?

I have some sort of a piggy back right now. My plan this year was going to be bigger injectors, bigger turbo, megasquirt ecu and tune. But now I gotta fix the burning oil and low compression first. My air fuel numbers are good currently.

in my build, I'm running stock pistons, Mahle rings, acl race bearings, maxpeedingrods ebay rods, all oem seals/gaskets and oem head gasket. Rest of motor is untouched oem.

For injectors I run and recommend flow force 640cc injectors

Ecu I'm running and recommend ms3 basic from mslabs.

Clutch I recommend fm level 1 with a stock 1.8 flywheel

All the above is holding my 17psi and 309whp mui bueno
