Default Baltimoron here with 04 MSM, hello.

Hey everyone, after a couple years of looking I finally pulled the trigger on a Miata. 04 MSM in velocity red, 6 spd. 19,xxx miles, robbins canvas top . I had to replace a fog light and tires for inspection (they were original and dry rotted) Picked up some Mishimoto led fogs and a picked up set of Yokohama Advan tires in stock size. Car is otherwise stock. It is a time capsule and one of the "newest cars" i've ever owned.

So far haven't gotten much seat time in it, but looking forward to getting the tires on this weekend. Plan on lurking and gathering info from you all here as this place seems like it is the place to be. Don't know at this point how much I want to do to this car. I feel like it is too cherry to hack up and mod. Might have to stay relatively stock.

Early plans are to do a tune up(replace plugs, wires, coils) and replace all the fluids this weekend.

I was either going to get a set of leather MSM seats to swap out the fast and furious style red ones or get a leather kit to recover the stock ones with leather. Open to suggestions.

Glad to be here and I'll try not to be a dumbass baltimoron as much as can be accomplished. Thanks for the help.

Welcome! I had a grey '04 Mazdaspeed many years ago and I really liked it. I never should have sold it. Do full bolt-ons and fix the horrible engine management and that car will be fun for a very long time!

As far as seats, I would suggest at least a drivers side Marrad seat. They are expensive, but 100x better than any stock miata seat. I have an old one that has sat in my garage for many years and is very dirty, but I would sell for cheap if you are interested.

Fix horrible engine management, aka, standalone? If that's the suggestion, sadly I live in Maryland and they literally last week changed the rule for historic vehicles to nothing newer than 99. So until that changes, I'm stuck with emissions and all that lovely jazz.

Do you have a picture of the seat? How much would you like and where are you located?

How often are your inspections? If every second year, then learn to swap back and forth lol. The absolute worst thing about the MSM is the HORRENDOUS stock tune.

I can get you some pics of the seat and we could discuss price after that. It is black cloth. I am located in NM.

My emissions are every other year. I am looking into maybe a pnp megaquirt and getting it tuned.

I don't know how cost effective shipping would be for a car seat across the whole US. Lol I would have to look into what shipping would even be for one!

If your seat foam is still in great shape and I don't know why it wouldn't be with that low mileage, new upholstery covers are more economical. You can get vinyl or leather and often choose many options such as different color or material inserts (back/butt), perforated, non-perf, and stitch color. My '04 MSM was also the base with the ugly clothe seats, never saw them because the original owner had Lotus Elise seats install. They are in dire need of new foam and I'm considering two Marrad seats, there's a guy local to me that I was hoping to meet this Spring but he hasn't responded this year. I messaged or texted too early before he had his out of storage. Once my OS Giken diff rebuild is on the road I'll try again. I was planning on taking measurement of both and pictures if he has the time, posting them on Miata.net for a direct comparison.
