Default De-noobing

Howdy folks,

I've got a 1991. It's my daily driver of 2 years. has 120k on the clock been through the last 2 m.o.t's with just a wind screen wiper. very surprised seeing as its an old car!!

I've been planning to add boost since the day i brought of some old guy locally who brought it from import, but travel and work and other life **** keeps moving this project down the priority list.

so far ive just been doing all the maintence jobs like timing belt, spark plugs ht leads, compression test came back good. I have also been tidying up the body work that was a little worst for wear.

Its marriner blue with a aftermarket front bumber, cat back exhaust, decat pipe.
now that the body work lookes alot more respectfull im looking into forced induction.

i live in southampton, UK. interested if any one locally has turbo or s/c fitted to there motor i could have a look at and just get some idea on what challange awaits me, bearing in mind im a fisherman. i am a little engine wise until you start throwing short hand words at me!

My goals are around 200 rwhp. This is my only vehicle and daily driver, so reliability and some level of comfort is important, but i would also like to be able to upgrade later on if i felt the need for more boost!

i will post a few pics as soon as i upload them of my camera just for you guys!

I beg to differ, i know a lot of you are in love with the stock bumper for some reason and set on just adding a splitter but i like to be original, there for doing something different. i respect your opinion, every one has there own views i kinda like it.

well i was looking into a diy build but it takes a lot of time acquiring all the parts necessary to create your own unique build. Plus im probaly not experienced enough to deal with the varibles, therefor have decided to go for the begi Shanghai-s turbo system with a megasquirt pnp for engine management. once iv reached maxamin boost/blown that turbo up il upgrade to a bigger garret tubo. of course il add the the 1.8 injectors, diffs, intercooler, ect, ect.

should be purchasing the kit later on this week. just fingers crossed the old girl can take it, from what ive herd the 1.6's are practically bullet proof!?

1.8 injectors with a megasquirt = fail

I would go with at least rx7 440, that's enough room to max your stock engine. With that said unless you really **** up the oil feed or put a kitty through the turbo, your engine is prone to blowing before your turbo does.

Dont forget to buy a wideband while you go shopping.

Someone needs to fix the DIY sticky and put in big red letters "1.8 injectors are only an acceptable upgrade with a raising rate fuel pressure regulator!!!!1!"

This is the second or third time I've heard someone think otherwise. I'll quote from another thread. The OP thought 1.8 injectors were good up to 9psi with a megasquirt.

That front bumper made me throw up in my hands and made baby Jesus cry at the same time. I love the blue though. The 1.8 injectors on my car were showing 108% duty cycle on my megasquirt at just 6 psi. So you need new ones. Used rx7 injectors can come cheaply, if you are on a budget. Anyways, get a different front bumper. I looked at the photos again, and tried to make myself appreciate it. Just accidentally go to fast over a speed bump, or drive too far up over a curb.

its old school style

things like this were cool for cars with popups back in the day (late 90s?). they made them for the s13, fc, etc...

imo, they do a whole lotta nothing. you're better off properly ducting/sealing the crevices between your heat exchangers than you are installing those.

but, they're DIFFERENT AND RARE. :-)
