My name is Lance and I LOVE my Gay Car...

Well, I should say, I love my gay car as long as it's a Miata!

Miata Noob from the SF Bay Area. I'm 50-something going on 12 and I've been a car nut since I was a kid. I have been open-tracking my '67 Mustang for over 15 years (it's set up for road courses and was underpowered for many years - kind of like many Miatas). I've always been a fan of light, nimble cars, but really fell for the Miatas a few years ago when my son got his first NA (he's now on his third Miata - a very nice '96).

I recently picked up a bone-stock 97 and the plan is to set it up as a nice handling street car that I can occasionally track (I can do all the work myself, as I did with my Mustang). My plans for a nice slow build went out the window thanks to my Janky kid: he found me a hardtop and Xidas for a great price, and I've been generally cleaning the car up. Wheels will probably be the RPF1s from my son (he need's 6ULs to accomodate his overkill big brakes). Still trying to decide which way to go on a roll bar, but that is at the top of my list (if only my kid would stop finding other parts for me). Not sure if I'll ever boost the car - the Miata is plenty of fun as is and I do have the Mustang when I want something with a little more oomph.

If you're in the Bay Area, drop me a line and come out for one of the Nor Cal Shelby Club track events: we love giving rides!

Welcome to the forum. Anybody who calls his own kid janky will be fine here.

I don't do ride alongs any more - too old for that **** (plus my son warned me not to accept rides from the strangers on this forum!!).

I've driven my son's Miata at Thunderhill a couple weekends now and absolutely love it. I keep telling him we should sell the Mustang and buy a trailer for two, but he's emotionally attached to the old Ford. Go figure: I've had it for... um... 35 years now I think and I'd sell it to fund a Miata Track Toy, but he can't let it go.

Don't encourage him.

Welcome, I am in Marin and visit SF often. I try to go to pretty much every Wednesday night drag at Sears Point too. I am happy to take you down the 1/4 mile once and ruin your Miata for you, so you are forced to do forced induction.
