Hey guys,

I've been registered here for a while but I'm finally getting serious about turbocharing my car.

I've been reading a lot but I've got the feeling I don't even know half of it.

Right now I've been ordering some parts. My plan is to take it step by step.

I'm going to buy a Greddy Turbo for a nice price (manifold, turbo, intercooler and FMU) but after some research I want to get a MS ECU first.

My plan is to order the MS ECU, LC-1 wideband and AIT. Get that in the car, play around with it for a bit and then install the turbo kit and run some low boost.

When all that goes well I want to invest in a 1.8 drivetrain (torsen, 6 speed). The 1.8 brakes are allready underway.

My first question: where can I find some information about what MS to get? I allready got offered help soldering a DIY one, but I'm not sure about what one to get (MS1 or MS2)

Here are some pictures of my car:

Will I blow your mind if I tell you there is also a MS3, and MS3x, and that you should get the MS3x because it's a sexy piece of electronics?

Will I also blow your mind if I tell you there is an entire website dedicated to explaining the differences between all the various Megasquirts?

Sit down before opening: Megasquirt Product Comparison

The wording didn't make it clear, are you getting and FMU and a MS? You only need the MS.

DIY is having a sale on the LC-1 http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/i...795-p-153.html. Although there is an LC-2 now.. LC-2 Wideband O2 Digital Air/fuel Ratio Controller

I like how sneaky you are asking where to find the answers instead of for the answers. Smart.

Also you have only met 1 of the criteria needed for a good intro thread. You need to supply cat pictures or pictures of gf.

Looks like everything you were looking for was covered. Nice post ^
Except: I'm going to guess you have a 1.6? Don't expect that 1.6 turbo manifold to bolt up to the 1.8. You may end up changing more around than you want to if you build for a turbo 1.6 now and swap to 1.8 later.

Welcome to the site.

didn't read potentially silly questions

car looks sexy tho

welcome

Yep but the FMU is included, it'll sit pretty on my shelf.

No problem. I really do suggest the MS3x. It's not much more than MS3/MS2/MS1 and the features are insane. Plus DIY assembly is pretty straight forward, if you need help I just finished mine and have plenty of pictures, etc..

You should at the very least get a Jim Stim 1.5 (found on diyautotune) if you aseemble the MS yourself so you can test the MS out before putting it on your car.

If you get the MS3x you can test the expander board with the JimStimX, but this isn't REALLY necessary, although it's a nice feature for peice of mind.

Mattijn 09-06-2013 12:14 PM

The Ms1 is 207 dollar, and the Ms3 is 387. Am I looking wrong? If it's worth the extra money I get that. Looks like the android Bluetooth dongle for msdroid isn't compatible though :(

FRT_Fun 09-06-2013 12:19 PM

That sounds about right, the MS3x is a bit more since you have to purchase the expander board too. Not sure about bluetooth as I prefer cable.

I guess it really depends on the features you want. If you have no desire for fully sequential and a very simple assembly then the extra cost might not be worth it to you.

I will literally shit on your car if you don't go at least ms2.

Braineack 09-06-2013 03:29 PM

a complete ms3x solution will cost closer to $550 in parts.

That's quote-worthy.

Mattijn 09-07-2013 04:08 AM

Yeah, I've just polished it so it'll slide of right away.

If I understand correctly:

- MSX3 is more expensive but has a lot of features I won't use (support up to 12 cilinders)

- MS3 has a lot of cool stuff like SD card logging and USB stuff

- MS2 has good tunability but misses some of the gismo's and is a bit older than MS3

- MS1 is the cheapest but it has fewer options when it comes to tuning and is more tricky to tune. So when it comes to price it's a nice beginners ECU but because it isn't as 'easy' to tune it might be a bad choice. Plus Oscar will shit on my car.

For me, I think MS2 is the best choice. Seeing I want a nice turbo setup but nothing too extreme. And I am not on a unlimited budget.

sixshooter 09-07-2013 08:05 AM

Have you looked at the MS3 Basic from MS Labs in our vendor's section? I want one badly.

supercooper 09-07-2013 08:58 AM

Welcome! car looks awesome!!!
Get AT LEAST the MS2. MS3x is sic, but if you dont really care about the extra features, may not be worth the money to you

I'm bringing you nothing. Except dookie of course :dealwithit:

Go on and do some reading up on the differences. If you do decide on MS1, I might have some carbs and a dizzy for you instead.

Nagase 09-07-2013 04:50 PM

The MS3 basic is really nice, but it's like twice the price quoted of the other options here.

Erat 09-07-2013 09:51 PM

Yeah, a simple MS2E or regular MS2 will work fine. Either a DIY PNP (already built) or a MSPNP will work fine. I have bought two used MS2's and they have both worked fine. The one on my car is a Braineack built DIYPNP, the other a MSPNP (off diyautotune) and they both work fine. If you buy them used expect to do a little bit of tinkering, but it's good learning experience.

Knowing what i know now, i think i'd be ready for a MS3x.

Don't jump into the deep end if you can't swim very well, but if you stick to the kiddy pool, you won't have a good time.

Mattijn 09-08-2013 03:42 AM

Thank you. I've decided on the MS2. Now I'll just have to find the best place to get it :)
