Ever seen a brown miata?
 

Hello all. Just bought a brown (i know ew) 1990 Miata. Its slow. But i could not have asked for more. I absolutley love it. My dad used to have a 05 sti with a apr wing and he sold it with out the wing. Well it landed in my hands... its a gtc200 and it looks great ( i think) on my car. I got tint and i had a system. Yep stereotype me im a kid, i love to have my car go fast for cheap:2cents: and also i love to blare my rap music (also country) and make it have a lot of boom. Sadly i cant deliver on the speed thing. I am sloowww. but thats why i am here. I am moving to florida this weekend and driving from irvine CA to palmbay FL. I really hope the car will make it! We ( my dad and I) just did the "loctite fix" cause my keyway was destroyed! So Basically stock with a wing!

What's so bad about the wing? I like it. Alot. Gives the car way less of the gay factor. And yeah wonton sure..

Well unfortunately you are going about a performance build exactly how most here would do it. First that wing is out of place. You could sell it and get important stuff like suspension,a used turbo kit(with a lil of your change added).

If you want fast with a Miata adding a booming sound system and a rollcage as your first mods really arent gonna do it...

There is a reason they tell you build from the ground up... try brakes,suspension,bracing and then learn your car. Then make it fast but I know nothing... Im past 30 y/o

Thanks! Well I couldn't really sell the wing cause it has been taken apart and I would not like to be respOnsible for anything that happened. The stereo was out of my previous car I have yet to spend a penny on the car other than the crankshaft fix. These where all things that I had laying around. Or else I would have started with the "important" things. I know I would love to get suspension. But on chickfila pay it's hard to save that much. I will eventually. Don't you think a roll bar would be a first judging by the way saftey is a big priority. Thanks for the advice. Remember I'm open to anything I'm not gonna be like most people my age I know I don't know it all and I love to learn!

You don't need a roll bar because you've got that wing in the event of a flip.

I can't see the pic of your car, but based on the text in the thread I'm imagining a stock brown Miata with a huge wing, blaring rap (or country) from the windows. Not the typical mt.net set of priorities, to say the least. But.. you're here to learn.

It's thanks to this site that my car is half of what it is. Sit back and soak in some info. Read the FAQ and the threads in "useful saved threads" for starters, and lose the wing, IMO. At least find a spare trunk lid and mount it to that so you can use it at the track once your car is fast. Even a lot of the fast guys don't rock their aero on the street.

Its a tough crowd full of assholes.
With this forum its pretty cut and dry: you either fit in and absolutely love it and won't even go on any other miata forum (most are insanely gay lol) or you're a retard and pretty much everyone hates you.

I think it's dumb also! I was reading the cheap and free mods also. What do you guys think about the mod where you tape the top corner of your lights to give it a aggressive look? Honestly. Sell that very nice functional wing to some fine gentleman on the forum here who will put it to good use on the track. Use that money and get some sticky tires and new brake pads and scare all your cockgobbling friends with your mad 17 year old driving skillz.

I like the brown and I also like the tint. I say that you put gold or bronze wheels on the car and you will have a miata that black people will love.

So yeah will cover basically the bottom half of the country for delivery! It was on a STI and then it got removed then got the screw holes rippped out. it was then epoxied back in. has been running fine and I have gotten a little over 100 with the wing so im pretty sure it can take the beating.

holy crap.. That was crazy. good thing he had a rollcage and a hans device. See why i owuld be hesitant to sell it i will not be doing track speeds and i dont know if the wing could hold the 400lb load of downforce.

I never understood why people tint the windows in a convertible.

But then again, I don't understand why people like automatic transmissions too.

Furthermore, I don't like people who keep windows rolled up with the top down.

I live in Ca and tinting your windows do 2 things...

Keeps the car cooler when parked
Lowers the chances someone wants to slide your top or break a window to get something.

I'm glad you decided to loose the wing. With your "chickfile" pay,then it is even more important for you to stop spending money on the car. Read as much as you can on this forum. Get a game plan together, prioritize your mods, and quit trying to do funky stuff to "make it yours".

Reading the forum will give you a great perspective on the price of upgrade parts. Stick to your plan, and watch the for sale section like a hawk. Great deals can be found there.

I'd probably start with a 4 point roll bar, then a set of frame rails (amazing results. A complete set of poly bushings make a big difference (but the amount of work involved is not for the faint of heart.) I posted a writeup about a cheap harbor freight torch. Burning them out is probably the most painless approach.

Alternately, don't do a lot to this car, save soem money, pick up a prebuilt turbo car after you know what you want. There have been some pretty good deals lately.

I think you need to put a 2jz in your car and use the wing, the only way to put a 2j in your car goes something like this.

How to make your HS friends think you're cool:

1. Stop trying to make your car "visually appealing" - you'll realize your current mistakes for what they are somewhere between 20 and 22 years old - at which point, you'll also realize what you can do to the car that actually DOES make it visually appealing

2. Do an autocross - get at least one run on video - then get at least one REALLY FAST competitor on video too. Show your friends your run, followed by the REALLY FAST run. You have just proven to your friends that you are competing with a corvette, or a fast STi, or a .... something fast.

3. Stop trying to get your friends' approval. If your friends see that you no longer need their praise and approval, they'll naturally start trying to get praise/approval from you - now your friends are groveling at your feet instead of you groveling at theirs. This means you don't rev your engine in the parking lot more than once/semester, or street race your friends.

4. If your friends want to be competitive against you, tell them you're more than happy to race them for time, then hand them directions to your next autocross. When you absolutely destroy one of your friends' civics/camaros/mustangs/insert"fast"carhere, you'll suddenly be their king.

How to make the rest of the world think you're gay:

1. Rock a HUGE ASS track wing on your street driven car with tinted windows, shitty "rims", funkadelic taillights, half-open headlights, monster rollbar, blaring your rap/country music for all the world to sneer at. Your message to yourself is: "I don't give a fuck what the world thinks", but your message to the rest of the world is: "Look at me, I need your praise and attention to justify my life!!"

Don't get me wrong, begging for attention by making your car look "mad tyte JDM yo!" is a much better way of getting attention than fake attempted suicide, but regardless of which of those two you choose, you're just hurting yourself in the end.
