Greetings!
Hey everyone.
I got my first Miata 1999 5sp with 130k. It’s amazing.
Ive watched a lot of YouTube and I saw how “easy” modifying a Miata looked. So I got one.
To preface I used to work on cars a lot when I was 16-22. Then moved to nyc and couldn’t have a car or space, just moved to Maine so I was stoked when I found out I could buy a car and re-up my tools.
So i bought this car this winter. I’ve done all my basic stuff. Timing belt, water pump, seals, (front and valve cover) spark plugs. Wires. Shifter rebuild. All fluids, oils, including dif/tranny. Basically I wanted a prefect stock example of the car before I started doing any modifications. I have not done a compression test, but I might do it this week.
Lets talk funds. I’m a chef about to buy a house. So let’s think budget build, I buy almost everything used and that’s the way it’s gonna be.
I really wanted a great spirited weekend car. I have a suv for normal stuff and I live 80 feet from work. So, I started making a few modifications.
Koyo rad
coilovers (tein sh)
wideband (glowshift) water and oil temps. Gauges.
I did the aux audio wire add on.
Wheels. I have 2 sets. 16’s for street, 15’s if I autocross or track.
My plans.
Megasquirt diypnp (I want to build it myself, I like soldering and electronics and building things)
Rx8 injectors
ls1 Coil packs.
Turbo
do I need a fuel pressure regulator?
I have to Collect missing parts. (Intercooler, clutch,(maybe flywheel)
then
Install my turbo stuff. (I have a cast manifold, a vms turbo, air temp sensor, water and oil lines, bungs, hks ssbov)
Goals!
I want a turbo. (Not for speed but cause I like the challenge/process)
180-200hp
Fun.

Welcome. We have a DIY FAQ thread around here somewhere.
You don't need a FPR.
Glowshift O2 may not be compatible with MS, but I don't know for sure. Nobody runs them.
RX8 injectors are often fake and don't flow as advertised. Be aware.
