Greetings from Northern VA

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Geran and I currently don't own a Miata.

I am looking to build a track only Miata for competing in NASA ST2 events eventually as well as local HPDEs, Hillclimbs and Redline Time Attacks when they come around.

Hopefully I get to know a good amount of knowledge from this board before making a purchase and maybe make some new friends. :)

That is all for now but I will surely be back to do A LOT of research.

I have a general idea of things I would like for the car ranging from aerodynamics, wheels/tires and suspension. The only thing I am on the fence about is the engine...options are swapping to a V8 or turboing it around 250hp and upgrading later if need be.

I currently live in Sterling but I am looking for a house in Prince Georges County MD (this is holding my back from getting a Miata right now).

Really? That's completely different from the other board I was on (RS25.com).

ScottFW 05-09-2010 10:34 PM

Welcome.

Why there?

Why there?

Because housing prices are still cheaper out there and due to where I work (downtown DC) my commute will go from an hour and 45mins to just 35mins.

Trust me, if I found a decent job paying me what I make or more out where I live now. I wouldn't be moving.

y8s 05-10-2010 02:11 PM

live in DC. get women and good food.

also: is your name from the name of a gun?

I work in DC so I get the good food for lunch every day and I already got a good woman (my girlfriend). :p

No, my name is something I've had for awhile from other message boards.

bojanglincraig 05-10-2010 03:08 PM

I'm pretty sure it's the surname of the guy that founded the city.

I don't think any of us are...I'm only here for about 5-7yrs until I hopefully move out west. :)

Braineack 05-11-2010 03:41 PM

Cause Sliver Spring, MD is the best place in the world...

Last time I was there I got my stereo stolen.

bojanglincraig 05-11-2010 03:43 PM

PG county is the best.

How did you know? SS is the bomb. :wavey:

I only go there to house sit with my girlfriend and I really like Takoma Park for the coop. :)

The guy who founded Lynchburg was John Lynch, brother of Charles Lynch, who was the JP after whom the term "lynching" was coined. Same family. However, when Charles Lynch was lynching people it was in the late 1780s for allegedly being British loyalists. Also, it didn't involve hangings so much as whippings, seizure of assets, and military conscription. The term was in use for several decades before it came to mean "hanging black people."

Napes 05-11-2010 03:59 PM

Wasn't calling this commonwealth hellhole home. God forbid if u mod car and drive it in VA. Awesome history lesson. Cops are crucial on anyone with mods on a car but if u got 89 ford pickup and are at wal-mart with your tags as farm use u good to go as long as u missin some teeth to go along with.. VA far from home to me.. Now ppl who love miatas as much as me that may be home.. Wheres falls church??

Braineack 05-11-2010 04:01 PM

somone hasnt ever lived in ca or taken a spelnig aor grammer olesson in hi slife

IcantDo55 05-11-2010 04:04 PM

Move to Va Beach, more better. Commute to Dc might suck tho.

Is it "more" better?

Braineack 05-11-2010 04:06 PM

last time I was in VA Beach it looked like Obama got a hold of it and handed out "out of business" and "for lease" signs.

Napes 05-11-2010 04:08 PM

And you said my grammar was bad...

Don't even get me started on him.

Napes 05-11-2010 04:08 PM

Va beach is almost as bad as where i live...

FRT_Fun 05-11-2010 04:09 PM

I only did a 6 month tour in VA. I'll be in TX a loooooong time though. There should really be a poll to see who has more, VA or TX... I'll bet TX has the most overall, but VA will definitely win in members per square mile.

Napes 05-11-2010 04:10 PM

I might be moving that way to start auto tech soon tho. VA beach that is.

Reason 05-11-2010 04:18 PM

Is there anything in TX?

VA Beach isn't nearly the shithole that Norfolk is. I did two years there...so depressing...

Braineack 05-11-2010 04:25 PM

ChuckyZ is in TX.

IcantDo55 05-11-2010 04:29 PM

Its much more better!

y8s 05-11-2010 05:43 PM

I used to live in a place called Mountain View and drove to work in Sunnyvale. beat that.

Braineack 05-11-2010 06:03 PM

I used to live in Northern VA, and now i still live in Northern VA!

Cheaper housing prices, in-state tuition, shorter commute for work

I'm going with option #2.

neogenesis2004 05-12-2010 01:09 PM

Thread is lulz, I don't see peoples problems with VA. Its a good state. Living in/near NOVA you can basically know that you will never have too much trouble getting a well paying job your entire life if you have a professional, marketable skill.

ScottFW 05-12-2010 01:49 PM

In for questioning Reason's reasons.

lordrigamus 05-17-2010 10:19 AM

exactly and be stuck in virginia

neogenesis2004 05-17-2010 10:24 PM

You make that sound awfully bad when you put it like that. I've traveled pretty extensively for work for 1.5yrs. Having been to everywhere all over the east and west coasts, and TX, I can say that every time I came back home to VA I felt relieved.

Napes 05-18-2010 02:27 PM

Im not saying i dont like VA and i live in the country haha but its alright i have just lived in better places in my life. I wouldnt really want to move back now lookin back, VA good place to live just not much to do or much work where i live.

neogenesis2004 05-18-2010 02:29 PM

Well, you live in fucking Bedford. My GPS probably doesn't even know where that is. It would take me to like Roanoke and then the screen would say "bum fuck nowhere", or "you're on your fucking own".
