Default hello

I have lurked here for a while thought I would say hello I own a 1990 1.6L with a greddy turbo kit running factory 5psi ya it's not the greatest but it came with the car, looking to probably build on what I got or start over? The turbo apparently only has 1000~ miles on it. I never thought about upgrading but I have had the car for a year and I have the itch for more!

Get a fmic + larger injectors + engine management(MS) + wb02 + tuning.

But first search more.

Do you have a timming retard device? Like bipes or msd.

If so turn the boost up to 6 or 7psi. That will be a good start.

You also will need a Intercooler( or water injection), clutch, and larger injectors to go past 7psi.

If I had it to do all over again, I'd have:

1. Not spend a penny on bandaids, and get an EMS from the start.

2. Upgraded the turbo hardware (bolts and whatnot) from the start.

Speaking from experience, don't bother aiming for "only 200 whp" or "just a bit more power" or using such phrases to justify buying bandaids. You will want more, so start planning for it now. While you're at it, go ahead and get a 3" exhaust and a substantial FMIC, because before you know it you'll be planning for your Greddy's replacement too.

I figure 230-250hp would be nice. There is no bipes or msd and a fmic is already at the top of my list

That is a top goal. You need management for that. You can get 190 with adding a msd and larger injectors.

For that you need spark and fuel control. You might could get it on bandaids, but it would be dangerous, and your mpg would suck donkey.

You will probably need a larger dp, a good size intercooler as well.

Once you get a wbo2 gauge and sensor, the tuning becomes easy after a while.
Good luck! You can hit it!

ya I was already looking at the bell DP or maybe getting a shop to do me up a custom 3" but I am not too sure if thats overkill. I dont really want to do bandaids its the cheaper method but I know down the road I wouldnt be statisfied.

That is the way I felt too. And I wanted good gas mileage.
Paul has a 3inch dp, and has great spool. I guess it is up to the price diference and quaility of the pipe.

I like the ms too. It is simple.

The MS does look really simple so I go that rote I should be able to solder it myself the only thing I don't know yet is if it's got a harness or if I have to wire that as well I am putting in a AEM uego kit and boost gauge in the next week or so along with tapping the return into the pan some of the things the previous owner should have done!
