Hello all, Ive been looking on this site for some time now and enjoy most of the feed back people recieve. A little about me and my car, I have a 1991 miata ,silver with a greedy turbo. I bought the greedy about a year and a half ago because it was the only one that i was sure was smog legal in California. Of course now I want more so I have baught an intercooler , bipes and 305cc injectors so i can up the boost. The car is my daily driver i work for CALTRANS and have a 150 mile round trip drive to work and back. I hope if I have any questions I can count on you to lend a helping hand, I promiss I will search first since that is a big pet pieve of some people.

150 miles.. sheesh. And with Cali gas prices? Does your commute cancel out your paycheck?

Oh, and welcome!

Sorry about the grammar, it was never a strong point but I get by. Yes gas is a killer, about $4.15 per gallon in my area but i have to drive that far for a good job with medical and retirement. The miata gets good milage about 29-31 if i stay out of the boost , thats not hard with the greedy since it doesnt spool up untill almost 4000 rpm.

Welcome. If I had to commute 150 miles a day I'd like to be able to do it in a turboed Miata as you do

Do you use your A/C? Have you faced any mechanical issues?

You've got a very classic setup going on there. Those pieces will take you safely up to the limit of the stock fuel pump. Don't forget it will only make 80psi if it's still fresh. But it's not wise to run it maxed out like that... leaves no room for a boost spike or other anomoly. Even a short lean period can damage your engine. For complete piece of mind, invest in a high-flow fuel pump. The Walbro 190lphHP has your name all over it. That combined with an LC1 or AEM Uego and you're all set for very tunable 12psi.

Thanks for the warm welcome . As for the commute i have had no mechanical issues other than a radiator that started leaking, those plastic tanks just dont last. I replaced it with a koyo, no other problems. The car has no A\C and no power steering and thats how I like it, less stuff in the way. I am going to order the Walbro 190 fuel pump on the 15th , pay day. I will also order a dual feed fuel rail and calibration kit for the vortec fmu. My plan is to collect all the pieces I need to run that magic 12psi than install everything on a long weekend. Should I get a o2 clamp also ? Im going to run the car at 8-10psi most of the time with the occasional 12psi for the local autox.

Be sure you get the 190lphHP... HP, HP, HP. There is a non-HP model as well that won't get you the psi you need.

Are you thinking about the TT fuel rail. It's a beautiful piece, but as I think you're probably on a strict'ish budget, your money would be better spent on a wideband. Tap the stock fuel rail for dual feed instead. If you don't want to buy a drill/tap, any machine shop will probably do it for you for $10. It's always a good idea to make friends with your local machine shop.

Will a regular o2 gauge work ? because i have one on the car. I put it on when I installed the turbo. It should tell me if the car is going lean, just not how lean. I will most likely get a wide band o2 later, or sooner if you guys think its needed.

WOW you guy are fast tot reply !! Yes the 190lphHP and the TT fuel rail I figure while im in there might as well change it. The wife makes pretty good money so she is going to get the fuel rail for our anniversary.

Won't tell you ****. Knowing if you're running lean is important, so it might keep you safe(ish)... but knowing how rich you are will be the key to which Greddy disc you run.

You can figure out which disc to start with by doing a little searching or just start a thread. Find somebody with a similar setup (there are probably a dozen or more on the forum) and ask them what disc they're running at what boost levels and what fuel pump and you'll probably be fine.

The thing to remember is that you only really need to tune the car once if you're running an all mechanical setup. Since there's nothing except the Vortech disc to change in your setup, if you get it right once, it should be good forever... meaning you don't need a wideband permanently installed. You might find somebody who will loan you one for a day... or you can spend $50 on 3 dyno pulls once you think it's close to be sure. An LC1 is only $190 and it's something you'll have forever.

As I said, skip the custom fuel rail and the money it saves puts you halfway to your wideband.

Edit: Since the wife makes money, the AEM makes sense... get you the sensor and sweet gauge for good money. Well worth it.

Thanks for the good info. I will do a search for the vortech disc and see what i find. As for the wideband didnt know the lc1 was so cheap. I think I will get the fuel rail and wideband it might mean waiting a little longer to put everything on but thats ok. I want to be sure i dont mess anything up ,I still have to drive it to work. Its not my only transportation I have a truck and motorcycle but its so much fun to drive.

The only thing with your wideband is needing an extra bung for it... perfect time to get a test-pipe with a bung. Pick up 5-10whp and a place to mount your sensor.

Welcome aboard buddy, That sure is some comute. Whats the mileage on your ride? Still the stock 1.6 + greddy turbo kit? I was thinking about going the same route for the same smog reasons but I dunno if I should swap my 1.6 for a 1.8 with less miles first. I have 175k on the odo and it still runs fine but I just want to play safe and do everything right the first time around...

Thanks Bryan, yes the 1.6 is stock with 148,000 miles on it, and the Greedy is stock for now. Im collecting all the parts to be able to turn up the boost. The turbo has been on the car for about 18 months and been flawless no problems I just want more from it now.
