Default Hello new guy intro

1st off I want to take a moment to thank all everyone that contributed to this forum (its my 1st forum and i learned alot of edict from the newbie thread)

Now then, name is Jon I am currently working on a 2000 NB project. 146xxx
I purchased the vehicle in hopes to have a weekend car for my wife. I enjoy simple mechanics but this might be a little over my head.
So im looking for your insght or advice.

The motor was covered in oil so I went to work.
1st I took off the valve cover
I recently removed the head and its a mess, motor is siezed, my plans are to pull the block and just purchase a new motor while i bring the old one back (if i can).
As far as performance for the future I'd love to have 175hp that I can make sure I'm getting all the ponys to the floor, I love watching drift but my plans are for grip.
So my 1st real question on the forum would be is, Which motor 1.8l for 99-00 or from an 05?
Or another option perhaps?
I'd love to hear your opinions 😁👍🏻
I've owned and worked on many Honda's in the past but this project has already captured my heart.
I stay near Fontana/Riverside so If anyone is down to meet up and shoot me some pointers id love to meet up for lunch. Well thanks for taking the time to read this. Drive safe and have fun.

I know kinda a long intro but I'd rather just put it out there.

Happy to see me get to work

Welcome.

For max performance, VVT, when you have MS3 or another way to control it. For your power goals, assuming you plan to get there via turbo, I don’t see the need. If you build the engine, put in Manley or equal rods, not stock, just in case, and for insurance. Rest can go back stock.

I kinda feel the same. If you rebuild replace the stock rods with forged. If you end up getting another engine go for vvt if you want the best performance or any 1.8 if you just want it running again. Any 1.8 is easily capable of 175 whp with turbo charging.

Thank you guys for your advice.
I believe my best route is see if i can get a good deal on either 1.8L/install and then see if i cant have some fun with the old motor. I know if i have a running car I'll get more motivated to install suspension ect. bling and it will force me to take it nice and slow putting it together properly (no ebay set ups here lol) then when thats in do it all over again.
I'll do some hw on my own but its nice to know the community willing n helpful.
I'll keep y'all updated on how it goes until then stay great, drive safe and have fun
