Default Hello from Tooele

Hey everyone, I'm Parker. This is my 1992 Miata:

I've had the car for 7 years and use it as my daily driver.

The Goal:

I'd like to add some power while keeping it very streetable as it'll still be my daily driver year round (including snow days). I'm initially aiming for 180 - 200 whp. I'd also like to drop my freeway cruising rpm.

The Plan:

I want to do this the right way, spend money in the right places, and end up with a car that actually works. Here's my plan so far:

1. Suspension
The current shocks are tired at best and need replacing. Where this is going to be a street car, I'm leaning towards the FM Stage 2.5 kit.

2. Brakes
I'll upgrade to OEM NA8 pads and rotors and pull the caliper brackets from my '94 parts car. I might do stainless lines while I'm here,
but need to do some more research into pros and cons.

3. Read all the way through Maximum Boost

4. MTX-L Wideband

5. Clutch
eBay exedy clutch and lightweight flywheel. I know, I know, it's an eBay part, but where my Dad's run one for several years and had no problems, I think it should work for me. FM1 Clutch, stock flywheel (thanks for the recommendation shuiend!)
While I have the transmission out I'll swap the stock .814 ratio 5th gear out for the .697 5th out of an FC RX-7. Between that and the 3.9 torsen, I should see roughly an 800 rpm drop at cruising speed!

6. Differential
I'll pull the torsen out of the '94 donor, have a shop swap in 3.9 gears (I don't want to try to do the adjustments myself), and toss it in.

7. EMS
I'm pretty confident in my soldering abilities, so I'll go with a MS3X DIY kit and get the car running naturally aspirated on it before boosting.

8. Injectors
I still have some more research and reading to do here, but I'm liking what I've seen so far out of the modified GT500 injectors. They seem to be better liked than the RX8 injectors.
I'll also replace/upgrade the fuel pump while I'm here.

9. Ignition
LS truck coils for much spark!

10. Coolant re-route
Forgot to add this in initially. I'll go spacer, kia water neck, and the perfectly molded hose that everyone likes.

11. Turbo!
- SR20 T25
- TacoTaco cast manifold (once they come back in stock)
- eBay intercooler (the one that deezums and aidan found and liked)
- Custom stainless 3" exhaust
- Blowoff valve (still deciding which one)
- Custom cowl cold air intake

Welcome to the forum. How did your 94 end up with a 3.9 when they all came with 4.1 from the factory?

Clean car!

You need to go check on Jeffbucc for us. He's MIA.

It is a 4.1, I'll have a 3.9 ring and pinion swapped in.

Looks like Jeffbucc's on the other end of the state; I'll check on him if I'm ever down there.

Buy the FM1 clutch. It is worth the extra money. I have seen eBay and cheap clutches fail to many times. The amount of time and energy it takes to change a clutch is worth spending a bit more upfront to only have to do it once.

Thanks shuiend, I didn't realize the XTR clutch discs were so bad until I read some of the horror stories on here. It looks like this is one of the "spend money in the right places" areas.

Welcome to the club, nice looking Miata, thanks a lot for sharing! I'm sure with all the mods you've planned it will be even better. Good luck and keep us posted!
