Hi I'm Elliot, I'm from Newbury Park, California, and I currently have a "mostly bone-stock" 1997 M-edition 1.8 Miata. Have been dailying this car for around 9 months now and I am wanting to get a little bit more power out of it.
Only modifications on my car are suspension, tires, brakes, wheels, sway bars, and exhaust.
I want to start out my journey slowly so any resources or help would be greatly appreciated.
Was thinking of starting by just getting a MS3 that I can tune on my stock engine to just get it running, then later on I can worry about turbo stuff (If anyone has a used Mega Squirt they would like to get rid of, I'll gladly buy it off you to save a few bucks and keep E-Waste out the landfill.)
I have attached some images below of my car

Welcome to the forum. Getting it running on a standalone and learning to tune prior to installing the turbo is the smartest path forward.
I happen to have a spare MS3 Basic for '96-'97 by MS Labs sitting on my shelf. It suffered a burnt trace on the board when my radiator fan circuit got too hot. Or maybe it was the fuel pump relay. It's been maybe 8 years and I can't recall.
Reverent, the owner of MS Labs, told me it had plenty of spare outputs and advised I could simply reassign functions to the unused outputs and keep using it. I chose to purchase a new MS3 Basic from him instead. I kept the old one on the shelf as a spare. If you are interested in tinkering with settings and wiring without relying on me for customer support, I will sell it to you for $100 plus actual freight.
It may have had one workaround implemented prior to that last issue, if I recall. I do remember sending a few bucks to Reverent voluntarily for his helpful customer service after he assisted me with something many years ago. He took the time to help, even though I originally bought the unit used.
Otherwise, welcome to this library of knowledge, amusement, and innovation.

Thanks for the welcome! I would love to take your MS3 off your hands. Sounds like a fun challenge. I have a bit of experience with electrical engineering so I’m willing to take it on. I appreciate it. How would I go about messaging you with details?
