miata motor swap

hello,

im new to the miata community and i just bought a 97 na miata. the last owner has blown the motor and i want to swap it with a 1.8l and i’m wondering if it would work with my shell?

Erat 12-17-2019 06:11 PM

is there any thing i need to change to the shell or is it a direct fit? would the 1.6l parts fit on the 1.8l motor like radiator, intake manifold, and exhaust?

concealer404 12-17-2019 07:02 PM

I'm confused.

So, as luck would have it, you already had a 1.8 in the car, unless somebody swapped it for a 1.6 (?). So the 1st version 1.8 that was noted in the post above will be a direct swap, even an emaculate swap!

Outside of 'merica and Australia the Roadster/Miata/MX5 was available with a B6 all the way up to the release of the NC.

So depending on where OP lives, it may be a factory 1.6, despite being a 97.

ah, my bad.

Didnt see a "location" show up below his username on the post.
And didnt realise there was a separate field for nationality in the full user profile (which I didnt open)

In that case, OP looks like another kid who needs to do 5mins of googling.

So your question is basically, can I swap in exactly the same 1.8L motor that I have and will it work? And you seriously dont have the answer?

my miata came with a 1.6l and i want swap it with a 1.8l and i wondering if it’s compatible with my na shell

We're all pretty confident that you have a 1.8 already in your car, so swapping in any other NA 1.8 is easy...Unless the PO went and installed a 1.6 for whatever reason...Or you're car isn't a US spec car... Care to take a picture of your engine bay (in particular the rear of the head)?

sixshooter 12-18-2019 06:46 AM

We have reason to be confused.

TurboTim 12-18-2019 08:40 AM

Lets use logic!

The 1.8 miata engine was available from the factory in the NA body. So to answer the OP's question will "it would work with my shell" or "if it’s compatible with my na shell" then

Yes, yes it is.

ryansmoneypit 12-18-2019 08:41 AM

Looks like Tyler is a young dude, who posts a few things on the net. All of which looks like it comes from the US. Now we are further confused with the engine you think you have. perhaps it was shipped here by a fmily member from another country?

The internet is a interesting tool.

Frofro97 12-18-2019 08:46 AM

Post a picture of the engine.

sixshooter 12-18-2019 09:40 AM

Post picture of girlfriend and we will decide if you are worthy of help.

Tyler Sisavatdy 12-18-2019 10:17 AM

Ope my bad i just found it is a 1.8l in my 97.

Tyler Sisavatdy 12-18-2019 10:24 AM

I saw a 01 1.8l motor on the facebook marketplace and i was wondering if it would work with my shell.

Scaxx 12-18-2019 10:34 AM

Nope, it definitely will not. Not possible.

Midtenn 12-18-2019 10:37 AM

a 7.0L is the only motor that'll fit in the 97. It's a unique chassis.
