Mid-Western Boy Wants to Go Slow Car Fast
Hi Everyone!
My name is Ryan, i'm a recent convert to the miata gang lifestyle. Last May (2018) I purchased my first Miata, a 10th Anniversary Edition with some 100k miles. The car is completely stock (less some mediocre KYB shocks) though in my short ownership I have removed the ac system (didn't work anyways), deleted the center console & rebuilt the shifter, upgraded to a nice weighted shift ****, performed the all essential "foamectomy", and installed an M2 hardcore roll bar in hopes my future wife may have a body to put in my coffin in the event I can ever go fast.
All jokes aside, I am a Mechanical Engineer in my 20s living in the Twin Cities who loves working all varieties of projects, be it mechanical, electrical or coding endeavors. My recent fascination happens to be this miata and whatever I can do to make it go fast. I've been an unofficial member of this forum since I bought the car and would now like to officially join the ranks.
I am roughly 80% of the way through my DIY MS2 build and continuously learning new info everyday. I realize now my ECU choice is a bit outdated but hey, i'm cheap. As a recent convert from the Subaru Fanboy lifestyle, I will be paying homage to my late WRX by installing it's original TD04 turbo into my new blue go-kart (don't try and convince me otherwise - i'm stubborn & stupid).
I know the journey will be long, and the road rough, but I will be sure to use the search. Please forgive me in advance for any noob questions I may ask, i'm sure there will be several.
Side Note: I would legitimately get a "miata gang" tattoo if someone designed one.
Thanks for Reading!

Hi David! Yes from what I have read the td04 seems to fit this smaller engine well. I figure if one can make 260hp on a stock EJ20 with the TD04, you should be able to make at least 220hp on the 1.8l with better injectors, fueling, ignition etc.
I'm not into autocross or track events at the moment, I more so just enjoy driving the backroads and would like some extra power coming out of the corners. Are you running a full exhaust with the Kraken mani? Any idea on power numbers?
Thanks!

I have a custom log and exhaust. Segregated downpipe that starts at 2" at the turbo outlet and builds to 3" for the rest of the exhaust.
I would have used the cast Kraken mani if it had been available when I built mine. Details in my build link below.
No less than 230WHP. I have not run a real dyno.
This cold weather really wakes it up.

David, I ordered the Kraken cast manifold and accompanying stainless downpipe last week. The guy was extremely nice and helpful though a little suspicious. The website no longer lists any TD04 kits though I was able to contact him through his facebook page. $650 shipped from Bulgaria, we'll see if anything shows up!
Steve, thanks for the vote of confidence!
I'm finishing up the MS2 build now, everything seems straight forward though I'm confused what to jumper for tach input. I've followed the MegaManual and referenced the Wiki for the mods but in searching the forum, I've found some conflicting (probably just extremely outdated) information.
The wiki recommended jumpers for tach signal input are:
Tachselect to XG1
Tsel to Optout
Megasquirt 2 Assembly - Miata Turbo FAQ
Although in Brain's super post he references:
Tachselect to Optin
Tsel to Optout
and some other jumps like XG1 to XG2
https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-sa...asquirt-13676/
I'm no electrical genius, just wondering if anyone knows which direction to follow. I'm guessing the wiki is best considering it was last updated in 2015 but i don't know for sure. I should mention I will be swapping in the NA CAS over the NB toothed wheel upgrade. Any thoughts?
