Talking NB from NC

Recently got a 99 Emerald Mica NB, manual, lsd, nice tan leather interior, and completely stock with less than 85k miles. Planned on daily driving this summer before the whole coronavirus meant I had no place to drive daily (working from home thankfully, but all gassed up with no place to go).

Not 100% sure what I'm doing, ever if I'm being honest but, especially with this car just yet.

Short-term just gonna enjoy driving it this summer and try to find a hard top (I take it OEM is the way to go, if I'm wrong and there are good aftermarket options now I'm all ears).
Long-term I'm thinking will be some form of turbo over the winter so I'm here now to get learned up so I know what to do. Already got a long list of don'ts that I'm sure I'll add to, for now I don't know enough about what I don't know so I'll stfu and get reading.

The car is in really good shape and I've done all the fluid / filter / plug maintenance type things. There is a small tear in the soft top I need to address, it's taped up good enough but that's only a short term thing. For now I'll just be enjoying it and hoping I can get out for a local autocross event if any pop up whenever we're allowed out to do all the things again.

I'm in North Carolina near Fort Bragg so if any of ya are in the area or know of stuff happening feel free to let me know. In the meantime I'll be here reading and trying not to ask dumb stuff before I searched a while.

I tried to upload a picture but it didn't work. Imagine a stock 99 NB in Emerald with a little pollen, a tan soft-top, and some discolored center caps, fog lights (weird dealer option I guess?) and that's what you would have seen. It ain't much but it's mine and I dig it.

Other interests include being a bit of a wheel *****. Already planning my dream wheel setup for this car but I'm not sure it actually exists, yet. Not so much a fan of long walks on the beach. I'd rather walk onto the beach, sit my butt down in the sand, and drink a beer while watching the waves come in.

Hope you're having a good day!

-Whiskey

Sounds like you have a great starting point. I started similarly with a stock NB, but as more of a second car. I'd recommend driving a few autocrosses to decide what you want to upgrade first. It's easy to spend time on the forums and decide you want a widebody, 300 WHP track car only to realize it's no fun to actually drive.

Once the world gets back to normal, there are a few good AutoXs in NC and SC. ZMax in Charlotte is a very good event, but they do take themselves a bit too seriously. SCR does events across SC with Michelin's Black Lake being a highlight (acres of perfectly flat testing grounds). There are a few non-SCCA events as well with Highlands club running a really nice event. Plus there's a ton of track day options with CMP, VIR and AMP plus the bigger ones at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Road Atlanta.

I concur on both of these, lol.
ZMAX is a great course, pretty large, but only four runs, and with what the event costs, that hurts me. Much prefer a highlands event with 8+ runs at ~$25.

Thanks for the info and replies! Not looking to go nuts with it but it needs just a bit more power and just a bit lower in the RPM range than its currently got. No need for a monster but it would be more fun with more oomph.

I'll look into those events, Charlotte is a few hours out but it's a nice drive and I don't mind making it!

Any places to keep up on local events outside of Facebook? I'm not active there anymore so I don't really keep up with events well anymore.
