If you know for a fact that it has been running reliably and consistently for several thousand miles without det and you're going to drive it just like the PO drove it, then I don't think you're at risk. Hopefully, you've got an AFR gauge. You're looking for something in the 11s when you're in boost. That should keep your pistons intact. Avoid the temptation to increase boost until you've got good management though.

Some on this site happen to make MS units, but this alone isn't why we push Megasquirt so hard. It works quite well with our little cars, it is a proven system that works, and it is way WAY cheaper than alternative stand alone solutions.

Plus if a moron like me can figure out how to tune my car, just about anyone can learn and do it as long as they have a little persistence to do a lot of research.

If everything is fine with how it is then, yes, you can leave it for now. But if you decide to turn it up you will need control over more parameters.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but you should swap the Voodobox for a Megasquirt.
