Really? Watching local facebook groups I've seen VVT motors go for less than 500 bucks. 99 motors seemed to fetch a much larger premium. 300 or so more. I stopped paying attention like Dec 2014 though.

500 for a bp6d? show me I'll buy all of them
lol

I tried to find one but got tired of looking lol. Found a bp-4w that was missing a tiny cast piece that the oil pan threads in to. Could easily be fixed by welding a little piece in lol.
$300. 88k miles.

I'll post the next cheap one I find and decide not to buy "just in case" lol.

I would find a used engine without a ton of miles with good compression and skip the rebuild. Any reason you're set on a supercharger vs turbo. For a low power street car I think it's generally accepted that turbo will be cheaper. Don't want to start a turbo vs supercharger discussion that's been beaten to death plenty of times, but it's at least worth considering. This is miataturbo.net after all!

Thanks for chiming in. Yeah I can easily shave almost a grand off the total if I find a used MSPNP and a motor in good enough condition. But at the same time, the rebuild kit would be just for my own piece of mind. Do it once, do it right, and fresh parts never hurt anyone.

As for supercharger...well, personal preference really. heh.

Nothing wrong with any of that. I've always figured if the engine is being rebuilt might as well build the bottom end for moar bewst! But I have a pretty extreme case of "while I'm in there" syndrome, and if you're being realistic about your power goals you shouldn't have any issue.

Also, if you're looking at new kits consider holding out for the Jackson Racing rotrex. Should be a high quality kit from a well respected company. Definitely more expensive than a used MP62 though.

Replace the raceland header with the Racing Beat one. It's just not worth it. The time you spend making the raceland fit will more than make up for the extra cost of the RB.
