Thumbs up New guy from NJ

Hey everybody. AWESOME site you have! Looking forward to reading and learning. Anywho, my name is Dave. Im 20, and in college. I have a 1990 1.6 5 speed miata and I just decided " I need boost" So here I am.

Plan on doing a DIY setup which im researching now. Going to take me a long time to research and buy the parts. Im going to shop for the best deals, as im in NO rush to do this. Ide rather take my time and do it right then rush and miss something. Any tips/thoughts/suggestions, feel free! Thanks for looking at my thread.

If you're looking into frame rails, we're looking at doing some on this board in a group buy cheaper then FM is doing them for.
Ahh good ol' Vmaxx, how are they treating you?

Welcome. What part of Jooisy? Looks like the flatlands in the pics. There are active groups north and south. Both will tell you to loose the Daisies, but don't listen to them.

Im in South Jersey...well I consider it south Jersey. Medford/Marlton area.
The Vmaxx are doing well for me actually. Not the best out there, but they
are doing their job well. As for the daisys, I will keep them for now. Im trying
to save for a turbo so spending a lot of money on wheels/tires will just set me
back. Once I get the car boosted, I plan on running 949racing 6ULs in nickle

Welcome fellow New Jersey'ian. I'm in Chesterfield but I go to Medford often. I also like the low stance...nice.

I recommend Shore Motorsports for turbo stuff. I only spend my money there.

Stalker!

+2 for Shore Motorsports. Had them do custom work on both my turbo cars. 1 of them will be HP king at this weekend's dyno day.

It's +1 Evan. I can say +2 because of the 2 cars. Actually I should say +4 for the 4 turbo kits Shore has customized for me.

Which is exactly why you are running both your cars before mine.

Welcome... put location in Profile and put something in your signature.

Start with the basics and clean the **** out of everything. I like Engine-Brite... put the front tires up on ramps at the bottom of your driveway so the engine is over the gutter (hippes STFU) and spray liberally on all metal surfaces. Keep that **** away from plastic as much as you can. Let sit for 10minutes and then hose. Do this twice. Buy a couple different sizes of brushes and use SimpleGreen and soapy water on the rest of the engine bay. Get under the car and hit the tranny/PPF/Dif... Engine Brite too and follow up with the soapy water. When it's cold out, I fill my soapy bucket with warm water from the shower so my hands don't go numb.

First purchases... new motor mounts and fuel filter, full round of preventative maint and fluid change, and a Voodoo ****.

Spark plug wires if you don't plan on a set of COPs.

Clean/gap plugs... will eventually want 1-step colder but not until boost is close. Power steering and A/C are for pussies, get rid of that ****.

Rollbar... see Mazda Parts from Good-Win Racing - Mazda Performance Specialists to see all the Hard-Dog/BossFrog/Autopower products.

A 1.8 brake upgrade is a borderline religious experience with some braided lines and decent pads.

Compression/leakdown test and do some Seafoam for good measure.

What (be detailed) has the car's maintenance schedule been like? Oil changes? Timing belt/water pump?

-Sam
