Default New guy from Wisconsin

Hello fellow Miata enthusiasts. First off lets introduce myself. I am McKabe from West Bend, WI. I'm 19 and am an automotive technician at Amato Hyundai Mazda. I bought my first Miata about a year ago when I totaled out my BP powered Ford Festiva. My Miata is a 1990 and since buying it, I installed Raceland coilovers (cheap college student), Jackson racing sway bars, viscous lsd, and a hard dog Xtreme roll bar. Recently picked up a BP out of 96 I plan on swapping in this winter with a 99 transmission and some boost. My goal is 225 hp. Came here mainly to find out more about tuning systems, injector options, open ideas on which turbo is right for me, and to keep an eye out for parts I need. Let me amuse you with some photos of my old Festiva and of course my Miata.

Why did you buy/install a viscous diff? get a MS now if you plan to boost. Just so happens I'm selling one.

I bought a vlsd because I got it super cheap, and anything is better than an open diff in my opinion. Highly leaning towards megasquirt, but unfortunately I have a few other things higher on the priority list.

The only thing that should be higher on your priority list than a MS should be a new suspension.

I agree, your suspension looks pretty broken.

Every time someone says they bought ricelands they have an excuse for buying them... that's a product I want to buy.

On that note after they buy the ricelands they purchase all other kinds of mods which would indicate they had the money just not the money to spend on that particular part indicating jdm tyte is preferred over awesome suspension.

In all fairness I don't think it would matter if they had xidas or not because they'd probably be cutting bump stops and dragging *** anyway.

I'd rather rock daisy's all day with xida then rpf and ricelands.

If that was my car I sure as hell wouldn't post any pictures of it looking like that.

Now please tell us how you think the ebay turbo kit will work for you because you just want to run 5psi until you have the money for a proper setup.

That festiva would be BAWSSSSS if it wasnt wrong wheel drive. When you totalled the Festiva, was the engine damaged?

Welcome to here. You'll have to ignore the crotchety old guys for a bit, we've had more than our fair share of stupid *** newbs in the last 3 weeks making unrealistic goals, calling us names, and just being complete ******* morons...

"I just bought a turbo car, haw do i turn up the booost? Tell me or I'll rage quit on you!!"

Because of the recent trend towards dumb *****, we're just a bit defensive right now. It'll wear off.

You stepped in to this forum with a reasonable power goal. You haven't asked us any stupid ******* newb questions. You have admitted fault with your current setup. You showed us pictures of your past and present rides. You are on a rock solid track right now. The only thing that makes us stand on our heads puzzled is that you installed a VSLD. Good for you for wrenching on your car and learning, but given the age of any VSLD, it's unlikely to give you any performance gain over an open. We hope that the only reason you installed it was because someone gave it to you for free. If you plan to boost the car, spend the money on a 1.8 differential first. A slow car that runs is better than a fast car with a broken diff any day of the week.

Overall, you get an intro thread grade of A-. Don't let it go downhill by being defensive.

Thank you! The engine in the Festiva was fine, but I sold it with the car due to a broken femur. Yes it does suck that festivas are fwd but that can always be changed.. Miata drivetrain would be a neat swap. I know the vlsd is supposed to be awful but somehow it seems like this one is very tight. Then again it may just be in my mind.

As an enthusiast of Miata's I say the things I say because the way the car rides separates it from almost every other car. It's like going to six flags and only going on the kiddie rides.

You're only riding the kiddie rides bro! If you ever ride in a proper setup you'll feel enlightened.

When I bought mine the first thing I did was buy Tein Flex's. I wish the Xidas existed then but they didn't. Changed out the Front sway bar and from then on my proud/shame of owning a miata has existed.

The MS should sell itself. It's a PNP unit + a few extra mods you have to do which are simple, and the amount of awesome you get is crazy. Dollar for dollar it will be the best part for your car. Buy mine, or not it really doesn't matter, you still need one. You can go uber legit and build one yourself if you want to learn even more. I'm doing that right now and it's insane the amount of information you learn.

You do the MS first so that you can learn to tune and play with the settings with as few variables as possible. And also you will have a hard time blowing up your engine if it's stock. Then when you do add a turbo you are a MS pro.
