Is that an apology? If so, great. Welcome to the forum, don't know why you'd want to keep the power under 160.. (clubroadster.net might be a better fit for you) but welcome regardless. If you can keep the whining and crying in check you'll fit in just fine.

and welcome
im just about to build a miata turbo project myself, but im still deciding on which of the turbos i own i should use

160hp will get your car moving along quite nicely, dont forget a new clutch, and depending on how hard your gunna drive the car, a new diff setup

im kinda noob too, but if you wanna pm me any questions ill help however i can(off the top of my head that is, im not re reading this forum for you =D

i only want to keep it around 160 because

1. Dont want to have to any internal motor work.

2. Want to still drive it everyday. Still want it to be a street car.

3. I will be leaving for army in the next couple months.Dont plan on the car being in the shop. I wont drive it when i am gone.

Thought simple turbo would be nice. make it a little quicker. plus would be a good learning experience for me.

Read this.

Then use that 12b and turbo your car.

You wouldn't need internals even for 240 RWHP (ask me how I know )

I drive my Miata everyday, with no AC or PS and a stiff suspension. Some have likened it to a big shifterkart and wonder how I can possibly consider it a daily..

What MOS? I just signed the paperwork to reclass from 35f (old 96b) to 35p (old 98g).

1) The miata engine was originally used in the 323 GTX which was turbo charged from the factory. The only difference between them is a little bit of material on the rods, which isn't even in an optimum place to make a huge diffence on the 323 motors. Our motors can easily handle 250 whp and with proper tuning and some care up to 275-300 whp on stock internals. Don't let it scare you, there are folks running 250 whp in daily drivers and have been for over 50K miles with no problem.

2) Mines a daily driver (dyno'd 214 last month, and should be closer to 250 now that I have the 3" exhaust and fixed the boost leak)

3) Given your time frame I'd suggest doing a low boost setup (5-6 psi) with a simple timing retard for the time being to get you on the road. That should be able to make 150-160 whp with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Cost will be minimal and with any skill you can do it in 1-2 weekends. Then when you get back from your tour it will be easy to add an intercooler, injectors, and manual boost controller to make much more power. Personally I'd avoid using the 12B and use a more common T25/28 or T3 turbo to make it easier to upgrade later when you become bored with the car again.

Ok that sounds good I like the fact that you want to set it up For later upgrade.

I just said the 12b because i have it extra. But not knowing anything about turbos. I had it given to me And i think it has a t4 flange. From what i was told

Isnt that an upgradable flange?

and thanks for the info. So i can go with all stock internals. Pistons and everything. And still push 200 bhp out of it. And wouldn have to change cams or anything.

I havent had a compression check. But the cars motor runs top. and the clutch is all there. I know i would have to upgrade it later. But for now it would be good.
Thanks for the advice
