Newb from PNW
 

Hello, I am 32 year old from Washington. Starting to turbo my 1990 Miata. Originally the car was bought for a trip down the Pacific Coast Highway. Now I am power hungry.
So far Ive installed brakes, flying miata koni's, hard dog double diagnonal, 3.9 torsen, advanti storm with yokohama s.drives.
I ve ordered a MK turbo kit. While I wait for the final package of parts, I am in the process of installing a qmax reroute, deleting the ac, replacing all the front seals, and installing a csf radiator.
I plan to do the recommended megasquirt-tune, injectors-tune, and add boost. In the end I think I'll have it Dyno tuned. My goal is a canyon carver with 200 hp.

What clutch do you have?

I am running a stock clutch set up. It was put in 8k miles ago, so its relatively fresh.
My plan was to leave it until I ready for the dyno tune, then swap in a FM 1.
I am still debating a lightweight flywheel or a stock style for street drivability; but I haven't researched that yet.

Welcome, good intro and plan. Got any cats? I'm in the Tacoma area as well. My opinion on lightweight flywheels is do it. They're awesome and you won't regret it. I've never put a clutch in and put a stock weight flywheel back into any car.

Many people recommend a stock flywheel with a turbo setup, so that's what I ran (FM1 with MK Turbo). Ran fine, and I have no point of comparison other than kind of wishing I'd done a lighter flywheel for rev-happiness. However, I haven't driven a light flywheel/turbo combo so I can't comment on any downsides there might be.

I say lightweight flywheel. Of every car I have installed one in, it was always the single mod that made the biggest noticeable difference and added to the fun factor. I run a SuperMiata clutch and an ACT flywheel (same as the SuperMiata flywheel)

Stay away from the eBay light weight flywheels. I tried one to experiment. I did a mag particle inspection and it was good, but when I threw it on a mill with a runout gauge it was 0.010 out (not flat enough)

Ive played with the idea of a light weight flywheel. But I guess I am all about the drivability. So i found a used 1.8 and had it turned so I am in it for $60. Just got my supermiata clutch!

I've run everything from a 10 lb 1.6 flywheel with a heavy clutch to a stock 1.8 flywheel and clutch. Both turbo & non-turbo. Light flywheel and heavy cluch is a burden if you get stuck in stop & go on hills.

You drove my car boosted with a 16# flywheel. I swapped out the 16# one for a stock one in the hopes of lessening the individual blows to my tranny.
