God, I love threads like this.
OP: "Hey guys, I got a Miata!"
Chorus: "Who gives a ****! Check out that old econobox!"
Maybe it's because we all have Miatas and see them all the time. Good condition Proteges are harder to come by and not seen as often. But I'm sure that to most people, my Protege5 is just an old econobox.
Some people can't appreciate art.

I love those, but finding clean ones is a colossal pain the ***.

That's why it's hard to give up on the Escort. My motor was going to make that kind of power, if not more. Target weight was anywhere between 2000 and 2100lbs.
Le sigh.
I was always a little partial to this insanity, though.
