noob miata drifter
Ok so I have lurked for a few months while I slowly built my Miata.
I knew nothing about them when I bought mine. Was spur of the moment. Wanted to get into drifting and didn't want a 240. Bought my 1993 for 1100 at 247k miles. So far I've done quite a bit. Wont list everything but I did put a 1.8 torsion rear end in it. Still have the 1.6 in it atm. Have a 1.8 sitting in my garage that I cant decide what to do with. Put it in now, or build it while its out and hope the 1.6 lasts till its built. Anyways I just wanted to introduce myself. My names frank. And ill continue lurking till I think I can make myself not sound stupid when i ask a question. Also, I live in Oklahoma and I'm a full time student, and full time dad. |

We don't take kindly to your type around here... I'll be nice :bigtu: Build the 1.8 while it's out. Drift the hell out of your stock 1.6L till it pops. |

Edit: ^ perfect post.
Do something productive with your life, like something other than destroying otherwise good cars that could be driven NOT into walls. |

Well actually I was 13 when I had my kids, secondly the car was in crap condition when I bought it for 1100, and I happen to like the wheels. Lol. And third of all where I drift there are no walls. Just alot of cones and open lot. And I built my car to the way id like it, I didn't take your opinions into consideration. But I posted here to introduce myself, and in all fun and games, I'm here to learn more about the Miata and turbo. So ridicule my car all you want, as long as I learn something I'm not bugged.

All lol aside. Welcome. Surely there's a lot to learn and there's plenty of resources available to you buried in the colon of this site. Props if you're somehow finding the time to enjoy a hobby, even if the car is a bit rough, while being a dad to (multiple?) children.
What is your goal out of this car? Just something to beat and move on, or you going to hang onto it for a while, or constantly rebuilding the ratty phoenix every time it breaks. |

And if I get good enough at drifting I wanna start trying to go pro am. My inspiration is Danny George. Allthough he is about a foot shorter than me lol. He proves that the Miata can be a valuable drift car.

That's a lot on your plate, single parent and studies. Hopefully you get it setup for some good fun, but maybe prioritize? Start a build thread with more pictures.

Ok well just to clear some obviously misinformed people up, I am a 25yo united states navy veteran. I served four years as military police. I'm not some immature punk who wants to smash his car. I drift on a closed track in safe conditions. I was simply introducing myself. Now your bashing on my parenting which I find to be immature and ignorant.
|
It's called hazing, don't get too upset over it. You did bring this on yourself though, especially since you claim to have lurked this place before, you should know how we feel about "drifters".
If you're actually doing it in a controlled environment and not putting other people in danger, then that's good. |

Good on you for just taking it in stride. A lot of people come here and freak out when someone insults them. You will learn that most guys here are nice but get enjoyment out of noob bashing. If you laugh it off and read some more you will be fine. Don't take any personal insults to seriously, it is the internet after all.

I love drifter intro threads. They always put a smile on my face.
Welcome sir. |

It hurts to see so many cars get trashed for something they aren't even well suited to do. |

I've lost it at least 5 times reading through the first 2 pages so far. :bowrofl:
Dirty Doc - While I do find the appearance of you Miata quite comical, I also have respect for you. Do you have pictures of your cat(s)? |

Did not know who Danny George was.

I have nothing to add to this conversation except strategically-awarded props.
And man, that trash can... Did exactly what Vlad did. Cracked up, looked again, saw the wheels and absolutely lost it. One tip doc: You know how when you tighten a zip tie you get that extra bit out past the lock? You're supposed to trim it. |
