Noob Scum, De-noobing myself.
YO, tea drinking scrub from the **** end of the UK (south)
The tuning garages and workshops in the local area are notoriously elitist and fussy with who gives them their cash... so I figured I'd save myself the hassle and start educating myself with that delicious search button ANNNND rather than lurk actually register and post etc.
Currently working on a 1999 NB with a TD04 set up, was running 13psi but recently dialed back to 8 due to some internal issues I am currently ironing out.
I am a pure enthusiast no formal training or anything and therefore my knowledge has random gaps, for instance, today I took a part the intake manifold and replaced the Denso injectors with some brand new ones successfully with no issues, but, I found myself with a question i couldn't answer in that process,which was: how much oil should be staining the inside of the intake plenum cus theres quite a bit here... see what i mean?

A sealed catch can system would help to remove some of that oil. Did you check your compressor housing or exhaust housing for oil residue or only the intake? If you don't find any in there, and it isn't smoking, it may just be your PCV system out of wack. You should remove the valve cover breather and run it to your compressor inlet pipe. It will help pull clean cool air into your crank case under boost. Or You could install two catch cans, one from the Comp inlet to the valve cover and the other from your PCV to intake manifold.

I checked both after finding oil in the intake, both were dry as a bone. since I've had the misfire issue i haven't driven it and been doing some maintenance to get it running smooth again, so i havent had much opportunity to see if it smokes while running. The batt has died now from multiple start ups, jumper pack cant even revive it.
I think i will mess around with the crank case ventilation configuration as there doesn't seem to be an exact answer, seems different configs suit different setups, most of the guys running similar modest street setups seem to have breather on the exhaust side and a catch can to atmos off the pcv with no issues, but i think i may have to re-route my vac lines from the intake mani to the FPR or something similar if i run it that way.
