Default Something different...

I was developing a Cobra replica based on Police Interceptors, but got bored with that and decided to base it on Miata instead. Which will upset a lot of people.
So rather than 2400lbs and a 300bhp V8, I'm looking at 1400lbs and 220bhp from a turbo 1600, which will be faster than the V8 and will handle more like a Lotus than like a truck.
Still at the development stage, so I used a retired track Miata with a Greddy turbo and intercooler supposedly giving 220bhp at 14psi, Greddy E-manage, 470cc injectors, a Prolite flywheel and 300lb clutch and an LSD. Keeping that lot and the swaybars, but the race-revalved K-sport coilovers and other goodies will probably be surplus, as will the body braces: spaceframes don't need stiffening.
Once the chassis jig is complete, the straight and rustfree body will also be surplus.
Currently prepping the prototype body buck for moulding, blocking epoxy primer, so my fingers are worn down to the elbow.
Having stripped the Miata completely, I'm very impressed with it: I can see why people like them.
The story can be followed in Kitcar Magazine UK, and on my website which will be up soon.

I was going to say your weight loss goal was optimistic, until I read what you're planning for the body, and that you're associated with Kitcar mag.

FWIW - No reason to doubt the car is putting down less than what's claimed, 220 is most doable.

Default Something Different

Seen at an autocross near you.

It was a 1.6 Miata, GReddy, EMB, Autotune, 15psi and taking FTD wherever it goes.

Oh, and Welcome ayrspeed!

A few pics are now uploaded, dunno how to get them into this thread. Cob1, Cob2 etc.
Don't know what the price is goimng to be yet, have to find out what it costs to make them. The idea is to go right back to kitcar basics with a single donor, so it will use everything possible from the Miata: pedals, wiper motor, exhaust, everything that makes sense. With the power-to-weight and handling it should be serious fun. There will also be part-carbon bodywork, moly frame option, custom suspension etc. Looking forward to it.

IMO you need to bring the body into the realm of your "lotus" thinking and away from the cobra. Welcome.
