Sweet Home Alabama!

Hello from the South!

KPLAFIN 10-10-2010 09:41 PM

Really? That's it? Like....for real?

Oh well. Welcome.

Put your location in your profile so it shows up under your name and this put the year of your car in your signature.

Also welcome to MT.net

Scooter314 10-10-2010 09:55 PM

will do & thanks.

OK, you (somewhat) followed Shuiend's guidance and (somewhat) identified your location. However, you are still lacking any information on your car or purpose, other than converting oxygen into carbon-dioxide...

We have someone here from Birmingham and a few others from around the state. It's a shame you weren't more specific. Jump on in.

........And we are less cryptic about where we live and what we drive!

GregTSi 10-12-2010 01:32 AM

Welcome. I'm from Florence, Al.

Scooter314 10-12-2010 08:02 AM

Greg, I am in Madison.

djp..What is to say about a bone stock car? I plan on doing an ECU piggy back or flash, 2.5 or 3" catback exhaust, turbo (IC and Injector upgrade), and then just ride the crap out of it! :)

If you have the money, and don't want to spend a ton of time tuning, then I would go with an AEM. Arther at Trackmasters is good and he likes AEM. $300-$350 will get you a full tune from him. It's not a steady state dyno, but he has enough experience with AEM that it probably won't matter. Tunerstudio is soooooo good with autotuning, MS that you don't really need a steady state dyno.

If you are on a budget, then you can't go wrong with the megasquirt. You can buy a diypnp and Brain can build it for you. I built my own and it was not difficult, but it does take some time. You have to have a solid game plan when building so that you know what outputs you need to connect and how to connect them.

I would get the EMS first, tune it, then start adding pieces and retuning. You need a wideband if you don't already have one.

I like the idea of the AEM. I will look into that one some more. One question I have is that say I get the AEM EMS, have it built & put in. Run the crap out of it and then add some more goodies. Do I have to send the AEM back and have it re-tunned or does this learn?

I have experience with the APR ECU flash upgrades for the Audi TT, but not with the miatas yet. Oh, and thanks for the help! I am really hoping to end up with around 300rwhp at the end.

miatauser884 10-12-2010 12:01 PM

I don't know if the AEM has an autotune for fuel. I think only the adaptronic has an auto tuning spark table, but I could be wrong. These ECUs are mostly user defined. You plug in values to the fuel and spark tables determined by the data that is collected from a dyno, datalogging, etc.

Search in the AEM EMS section to learn more about it, or give arthur a call at trackmasters in Huntsville. This site has a wealth of info on MS. DIYautotune.com has a stock base map that is a good jumping point.

300HP is expensive. Good luck. IF I did it over again I would probably shoot for 250 with stock internals. :2cents:

Scooter314 10-12-2010 12:30 PM

Good point about the cost of the 300hp. Once I get a handle on everything needed to get to that point, my plan may change. I am currently in the planning stages, as you can tell.
