Default Time to introduce myself

Hello turbo crowd my name is Ryan. I've been a member of this board for quite some time, but have never really posted, just used it as a source for furthering my turbo knowledge. Now the time has come and I am starting my turbo project. My base is a 90' 1.6, and I have a long nose 1.6 motor that I am going to build up with forged internals so I can have a fairly bullet proof bottom end. I'm really looking forward to joining the turbo crowd and I hope I can get to know some of you on here as well. I will start posting updates of my build as they come. Thanks for all the support this forum offers.

Ryan

It doesn't cost any more money to build a 1.6 as a 1.8. I know of 2 '99 parts cars down at the junkyards in Otay with drivelines. If your goals are sub 300whp, you could buy the entire drivetrain and brakes for for far less than it would take you to "build" a 1.6. 250-280whp on a stock '99 is a no-brainer. Of course a built 1.6 will get you there too, but unless you've got a hard-on for the 1.6's, start with the bigger motor and better head.

How about outlining your build plan and setup and let us see if we can guide you in the best direction.

well, I picked up the extra 1.6 for 100 bucks so I figured I would start there. I was planning on going the T3 route as I already have the manifold. From there I figure I will need to run a 3" exhaust and have some decent head work to get the kind of spool I want. As far as fuel control goes I'm currently saving for a MSPNP, and some kind of wideband controller most likely innovate LC-1. I'm looking to get a modest 200-250WHP from it and possibly more later on down the line, but thats where I want to start off first. I'll probably end up fabricating my own intercooler piping as well. Oh and as far as upgrading the drivetrain I'm stock piling the parts needed to swap over to the 1.8 rear end.
