Default 2001-2005 Parallel harness

Hi,

Has anybody got a parallel ECU harness schematic for a 2001-2005 car with the relevant MS1v3.0 DB-37 connections? I'm planning my MS-1 parallel install on my 2003 Sport and could do with some guidance from some of the guys who may have already gone this route.

I'm installing a CAS in the back of the exhaust cam and initially plan on just controlling fuel and spark and possibly even idle with the MS-1 v3.0 that I have.

Thanks,
Craig

I never got around to writing it all up when I did an 04. But that was an MSM anyway, nevermind.

Whatever you have should still be useful

One would think right? but the harnesses are very different between the TC(turbo charged) and NA motors. One having VVT and the other having turbo.

Here are 2 PDF's for 04 wiring. Both have MSM and non MSM info

I've been doing some research into the Megasquirt install with reference to my boomslang harness.

This is the boomslang harness I have and it's configured for a 94-95 1.8.

I'm trying to convert the harness for my 2003 ECU but I need to know if the centre pins of the 64-pin are used at all? I'm under the impression that they arn't. Is this correct?

Here is my 2003 ECU (with the soon to be removed Powercard)

Now the picture isn't so clear. I can see there are three connection blocks on the ECU (FACK!)

I desperately need a PROPER pinout schematic for a 2003 car like the one below:

I've been looking through the HORRENDOUS PDF manual I have for 2001-05 cars and I havent got a bloody clue, the thing just isn't clear to me and I'm getting totally pissed off now.

I'm guessing most of the boomslang harness I have won't really be modified, but I need to make sure that things such as hooking up the CAS I plan on installing on the exhaust cam have the correct signal going to the correct pinout on my ECU, then same for fuel, ignition, idle, power and ground etc...

Cheers,
Craig

I figured it out. I'll try to look at it again and tell you what's what if nobody else does. But it might not be for a few days.

you know... the 01+ connectors dont look like that at all.

you're gonna have to buy/sample/steal them from somewhere. the hard one is the female ECU receptacle.

If you could, that would be brilliant! I don't mind the wait.

Studying the ECU, it appears to be the case. I guess the next port of call will be to find out the manufacturers code and order some from somewhere.

Thinking more about it, I have come up with 2 options...

1. Try and source the 3x correct connectors for the 2003 ECU and modify the 94-95 boomslang so it's compliant with the 2003 ECU and then find a 2003 pinout in order for me to connect the MS DB37 connector and run the MS1.

OR

2. Savage the OEM harness with my heatshrink crimp connectors for the MS1 install, which to be honest, I can't see being a huge issue as there isn't much to splice into for a parallel install (An educated guess leads me to approx 16 splices into the main harness) ONCE I find an ECU pinout for a 2003 car.

What do we think?

you can get samples or order them from Electronic Component Distributor | Onlinecomponents.com

you probably can't get the receptacle but you need one that has 17, 24, 31 position spaces. there's one with just those three, and there's one with a fourth irrelevant one. either works and there's about a dozen variants.

when i did it for the msm I ordered the boomslang extension and just added the db37. lots of headache saved. and you can recoupe some money by selling the 94/95 boomslang.

Thanks for the part numbers, that's great!

The problem is with onlinecomponents not wanting to ship to the UK unless I buy hundreds of the damn things No one in the UK stocks these kind of connectors.

The prospect of going the official US based boomslang route seems the only affordable option at $139 + shipping.

Extensions and selecting the Factory Harness Extension for a 01-05 Mazda Miata.

Damn the world

Splice the factory wiring and solder the db37 ms harness straight into your car, thats what i ended up doing because i couldn't get the connectors. That way you still keep your factory harness and the extra ms wires can be snipped off if you ever sell the car or want to take the ms off.

I've got an '01 ECU sitting around collecting dust. Would you like it so you can remove the connectors or is that not what you're looking for?

That's ultra kind of you, but I'm based in the UK and shipping would cost a small fortune. I'd also still require the 353027-1 (17 pos), 353029-1 (24 pos) and 353031-1 (31 pos) and pins.

You guys are great, your advice and ideas are nothing short of great
