Default Another "Look at my Spark Table" Thread

So I am bored at work and decided to build a new spark table. Is this really still considered conservative? I am on a Stock block 1.8 running seq and 550cc rx8 injectors. Id imagine at 14psi on the 50 trim Chinacharger from the MK Kit I am approaching close to what the rods can take.

EDIT: Also is it worth rescaling the table down from 230kpa? There really isn't too much timing change going on up there.

It's hard to say, check out my thread https://www.miataturbo.net/megasquir...ng-ms2e-84592/. I was having some knock with slightly more retarded timing than you have there.

Boost may rise in some circumstances and you need spark mapped higher than your intended boost level. Otherwise you need a very aggressive fuel cut.

It's kind of hard to say about a spark table without running it on a dyno. I will say that more spark timing increases cylinder pressure and stresses components.

I made some det cans last night. I will try them out a little tonight hopefully. I made ones oike the ones you made in your thread. The work ok I can hear the engine well just wish it was slightly louder. I haven't driven with them yet so we will see if they are louder under load

They don't get much louder under load, but the speed obviously increases. The best way to listen for knock is to listen for anything different than what it sounds like at idle. For me it sounded like a pebble in an empty coke can for a few short moments. Also try with the top and windows as far up as you can.

I shortened the hose a little and tried to get it with as little coil as possible. It helped a good bit. Hopefully I will be able to hear it good enough. I am going to tune early tomorrow morning as I have the day off and it should be cool enough to leave the windows almost rolled up. I don't have AC and Im in central tx

Yeah, I'm in Dallas and do most of my Det can testing after 9pm. Usually around 11pm when the access roads are fairly empty and it's easier to do loaded pulls by keeping your left foot on the brake.

Welp just got done from running around with the det can. Man i love this little gadget. I can hear it much better since I shortened the hose. I am not getting any knock up top on my current table which is running slightly more timing. Sounds smooth like when you coast on a bicycle all the way up top to 14psi. I didnt hear any bacon poping sounds with that table.

Gibbs are you running 93 octane? Did you double check your base timing?

Yes I'm running 93 and also an octane booster to rule out bad gas. I just bought a timing light yesterday to double check my base timing. Probably gonna do that this weekend.
