I finished building my DIYPNP today, and loaded firmware MS2/Extra v3.4.2. I downloaded a basemap for 94/95 non-turbo ( i think) from here: (MegaSquirtPNP by DIYAutoTune.com)

I am completely new to MS/TunerStudio and as I look at the VE tables I notice the y-axis kpa range goes from 20kpa to 230kpa. I was under the impression this map should be for a naturaly aspirated engine. Am I wrong?

I tried another base map from here: (https://www.diyautotune.com/support/...5-mazda-miata/)
It's v3.0.3.The values changes some but still much greater than 100kpa.

My process for loading the msq:

1. create project, following process via the sticky in this forum/diyautotune's site
2. select 'load msq'
3. navigate to msq I want and select it

I do of course get quite a few errors because the most recent base map is v3.3.1 and my firmware is 3.4.2, I'm wondering if this is the problem... The vehicle is a completely stock 1994 and I'd like to get MS running and learn to tune before the turbo goes on, and just want to make sure I'm starting out with the correct base map.

you don't need more than 105kpa n/a but most maps are scaled for more because most usually go f/i later
works fine both ways and saves you time and effort later

 

I can accept that. I'm getting ~40 errors due to unit mismatch. I've read a few posts and it seems this isn't a big deal, yet TS says it doesn't convert over the values. See image. I'm mainly concerned something with timing may be getting screwy.

 

From what I know, TS will interpolate between the ranges not in the scale (depending on whether or not you hit that area). Doesn't hurt to rescale the y-axis, I know I did as I don't plan on going f/I anytime soon.

I would open my MSQ and export the spark table and then import it into your MSQ. That will avoid any potenial firmware issues.

 

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm a little paranoid since many msq files come from states with better fuel and thus more timing advance.

 

My map assumes 93 octane.

 

Honestly you should learn what everything does and then just use base maps as reference points or general idea, not just lump in a completely random base map from someone else's racecar or something.

Starting with someone's already tuned map and just dumping it into your TS and then trying to fix all the discrepancies is a backwards approach that will have you waste more time than starting from scratch.

on 91 assuming your ms is sync'd correctly, you should be running mid 20's to low 30's spark in the upper row, with mid to low 12's afr.

 

Dumping in someone else's basemap and running it without understanding what all the settings do is a great way to grenade your motor.
