Thank you! Changed those settings and I'll see if it makes a difference next time. Appears that the settings on the basemap were off by a factor of 10 or I somehow introduced that error.

re the three greyed out boxes under pulses per mile used for anything? My values are different than yours for some reason.

Is there any reason my VSS would be inaccurate? It's reading in the single digits for some reason. I also think the current gear doesn't work.

I did go back and change TS to read speed from VSS since it was using GPS. Maybe it'll be fine in the next log?

your VSS input is setup for a 6-sp miata when i looked at your tune, if you have a 5-sp then...

ridethecliche 05-05-2017 11:12 AM

Heh, yeah. The NB1 Base never came with a 6 speed. I'll change the number back if/when i get a six speed. Hopefully somdeday!

Did you get a chance to look at my email perchance?

Having a weird rev hang (?) issue on decel. The car will drop rpms and then blip by itself a bit around 2000 before coming back down. Does this in neutral too. This is new since the turbo install. Any idea where to start with this? Redo engine states?

Logs and t00n attached.

Still haven't really figured out the above, but it's more of an annoyance.

Does anyone have any input for installing EBC and tuning with MS3X? All the search results I found were old and everyone had a ton of issues.

My goal with this would be to have 2-3 boost targets: wastegate, med, and high boost. Or if that's too complicated, then just run one switch for WG and 'med' boost. I have from a 'voice of reason' that I should keep things as simple as possible so I'm just trying to figure out where this ends up.

Goal would be to have a setting that lets me run daily levels of boost that are adverse condition friendly (i.e. rain) and a good weather boost level that's still well under what the stock block can handle. If this ends up being too complicated, I might just swap WG springs and start reading about TPS based boost so I can keep boost at a reasonable level till I decide to really get on it.

Put a switch in the ebc signal line from the ecu. Turn off switch. wastegate boost. Turn on switch, ebc boost.

sonofthehill 05-22-2017 07:35 PM

^^^This.

Just to warn you, closed loop EBC not easy to tune, it takes patients, doc.

ridethecliche 05-22-2017 08:31 PM

Thanks Aidan, that was my impression.

As long as I can tell it to fuck off, i.e. turn it off, when it's pissing me off that's reasonable. I'm trying to figure out what the options would be to do boost by gear or based on throttle input. That way I can just leave the ebc to the spring pressure I want at max and let my right foot determine what's going on. I'm trying to tune out my own idiocy, i.e. trying not to have another brown stain moment. I was under the impression that EBC was infinitely adjustable on the fly (i.e. with a dial instead of a laptop), but it seems that MBC's can do that. My car is pretty awesome at 7 PSI. I think I'm going to try to tune with the 8-9 ewg spring and set cutoff to 11-12 for overboost protection. Should be plenty awesome there.

I just don't want to get into the 10 range unless I'm actively trying to (i.e. foot on the floor), hence the want to figure something out for EBC where I can run purely off wastegate or use TPS to limit boost buildup below a certain threshold.

aidandj 05-22-2017 08:38 PM

Ebc can be I infinitely adjustable. But it's megasquirt so you have to build the circuit. I have a thread on here about it. I have a 5 position knob.

I'll look through your old threads.

So your 5 Position knob basically changes the voltage that the EBC is seeing with each voltage calibrated to a different boost level? If I'm understanding correctly.... that's awesome.
It's basically the benefit of being able to tune everything with the added analog touch. I'm finally at a point where I feel comfortable driving the car around without my laptop. Famous last words, perhaps, but it's awesome.

I read about a lot of issues with folks getting overboost or having drastic boost changes with EBC based on temperature over the same day. Was that an MS1/MS2 issue mostly?

aidandj 05-22-2017 08:52 PM

That's an issue of not having a perfectly tuned PID setup.

Rotary potentiometer outputs different voltages to the MS3

Ahhh. Gotcha. Sounds like a cool project for future Rish!

And it's a failsafe right, i.e. since it's voltage dependent, an issue with the EBC will lead to MS seeing 0V and let everything run on wastegate?

dr_boone 05-22-2017 09:06 PM

I have one of those switches. I think it is rusted in place. If you have high boost why would you ever want low boost. (on a street car that is) I can see the benefit of it on the track. Closed loop boost works great once you get it set up. There is a current thread that helped me get mine working. I'll post up a link if i can find it. Don't over complicate it.

Adverse conditions etc. Though similar effects could be had with just a TPS based system that limits boost. I was under the impression that ebc made the TPS setup easier. I might have just totally made that up though.

aidandj 05-23-2017 03:18 PM

...have you not driven your turbo car? 50% throttle will not give you all of the boost. You are restricting it still. You can just not go 100% throttle. It's variable. Not a light switch.

Another good Signature Quote from ADJ.

Maybe :(

Nah. I just want to idiot proof it. I have found that there's a point where I'm driving where the car will hover at about 0 pressure till I either push down on the pedal (bewst) or let off (vac). So I could drive at 0 forever if I felt like it.

But what's the fun of that. I think I'm going to just install the next higher up WG spring, which should get me to about 9-10 PSI and call it a day for now. I don't have the time to do a good job with the ebc install so might as well do it when I have the time or just live without it.
