Will an m100 work for logging?
What cables are required?
What kind of storage do these shits use, and can I use a huge sd card?

Pawn shop fail.

i've never been in a pawn shop, am i missing out? however, what ever happened to the little sd card slot thingy someone was talking about for logging, i want one.

The m100 will work but it will be subpar for logging on track IMO because it only has 2MB memory. A 25 minute track session logged with Palmlog in burst mode results in a ~3.5MB file. If you get a 2MB model you're confining yourself to logging in "normal" mode (6-ish Hz) which will cut your file sizes down by 70% but results in rpm and MAP traces that look more like staircases than smooth curves/lines. If that doesn't bother you then a 2MB model is fine, but these things are so dirt cheap that there's no reason to not step up to one of the 8MB models.

The Palms that had SD/MMC slots were the m500 series but those require some mods on your part to get them to communicate with MS. Check the Palm compatibility thread at MSefi.com.

As far as cables, for logging I use the standard Palm serial cable plus a gender changer and a null modem adapter (rat shack didn't have a one-piece gender changing NMA when I was in there). You plug this contraption (see pic) to the serial cable from your MS and you're in business. You can start the log while you're sitting in grid.

To transfer the logged data to your laptop you remove the gender changer & NMA and plug the Palm serial cable straight into the USB-serial adapter that you're already using to connect MS to your laptop. Then fire up Megatune and go to File -> Datalogging -> Burst Mode (regardless of whether you used "normal" or "burst" logging in Palmlog) name your file and start the upload from Palmlog.

I seem to remember the SD logger thingy being $100+. My IIIxe setup was $15 shipped on egay for the Palm and <$10 for overpriced rat shack adapters.

If you enjoy shopping for power tools that have been beaten to shit, then stolen and sold for meth money, and are still priced at 75% of new MSRP, you owe it to yourself to check out some pawn shops. I'm not saying bargains are nonexistent but my experience is that they are few and far between. The pawn brokers all know how to use ebay to look up what something is worth so it's going to be difficult to really fleece them, but if haggling is a hobby of yours then go for it.

So. Where is this thread on the sd logger.

There are too many iPhones/iPod Touch's out there for it not to be a supported platform.

i had some issues with palm on hi res. i think i jus ttyped in the settings wrong, but it actually ended up corruptinig my firmware and leaving me on the side of the road.

Like i said.. i think i simply typed in the wrong character or something. I never had a problem before that.

If you want my palm that looks just like the one pictured above pretty much brand new PM me.. i never use it. Make yourself a homemade nul modem and you are good to go. I even have the cord so you dont have to have it in the cradle

I need this. I am going to use a windows mobile unit for maxqdata, and do not want to drag my laptop around to the track and autocross, don't want to deal with bootup, saving log files, starting and stopping log files, etc. I found megalogger, discontinued and $800!!! All the smart fuckers on here, must be able to build something us idiots can buy for a reasonable price and just plug in to the serial port and hit a switch to stop/start the datalog.

I understand MS3 is going to have support for SD datalogging. I just don't want to change to MS3, as my shit is working perfectly as is. Unless Brain wants to make some schekel on doing an upgrade....
