Smile another first-timer newb

Hello Everyone,
I thought i am going to post all my questions in one thread. I have been learning this site for many months now. I have read all the FAQs and searched every bit of it.

I just recently put a begi-s kit on my 90 miata. The list of mods goes: Begi-s kit, turbosmart bov, afm removal with gm AIT sensor, MSPnP, lc-1 and thats it. No intercooler so far.

I decided i am going to do as much as i can myself with this project. No shops or professional work going to be done to this car as much as possible.

I have installed the Mspnp and got the car running, then i deleted the AFM and made sure the car runs after that i installed the LC-1. I wired the grounds from all the wires to one connector and plugged it right to the ground in the back of the head where the CAS is.

I want to tune as much as i can myself, even if this will cost me my engine. I really want to learn that is my primary goal.

I have read a book about tuning ecus and with that and the power of interwebs i am going to road tune my car myself. However i will need guidance and people to tell me if i am doing something wrong.

So far i got familiar with MegaTune and MegLogViewer. I logged my car three times increasing MAP pressure a little bit more every time. After around 15 minute runs i pulled over and looked at the log with a log viewer and used VE analyzer. After running the log through the analyzer i adjusted VE tables by hand in MegaTune. So far it looks pretty good, at least to me it looks ok. I think i have a bit of a problem with the car idling quite lean, i get anywhere from 15.3 to almost 20 something when the car idles. When i boosted i saw afrs within 10 to 14 which is a bit on a lean side, 14 that is.

I would like to get some input from you guys to tell me if i am doing this right. One thing i am worried is if i set something wrong in the first place and maybe seeing wrong afrs.

To make its clear. I took the stock narrowband out and replaced it with LC-1 and wired it to the stock connector. I cut the clip off of the stock o2 sensor and spliced it into the LC-1 controller and plugged it into the stock sensor next to the CAS. I did do free air calibration as well.

Question: I do have a gauge for the LC-1 i want to put it in my dash so i was wondering what signal wire should i use for it? I am already using Brown Analog #2 wire for the ECU so should i use Analog #1 for the gauge or will i only get narrowband reading then? should i splice another wire to the Brown wire and wire that up to the gauge?

Thanks a lot for reading this. I am including my latest log and the already adjusted MSQ file.

Thanks again, Taras

The analyzer never really gets the idle cells right in the fuel map. Normally I'll watch the a/f guage and tune the idle cell its in along with the few around it to the same value. My car like to idle around 13-13.5. When you run the analyzer just change your idle cells back when its done.

What does your AFR table look like in MegLogViewer? Make sure you are not using the default one.

Thanks for posting! I kinda figured out that analyzer does not do a good job with idle. It makes it way too lean.
Where do I find afr table in mlv? Thanks again.

Click over on the right next to the "Save MSQ" button and choose which one you want to show up - select afrBins1

got it! first 4 rows say 11.7 all the way to 7500
next row is 11.4 all the way to 7500
next 3 rows are 11.1 all the way to 7500
the last one is 10.9

this is going from the bottom up horizontally

What does this table do?

Thanks, Taras

Taras Bulba?

Thats the table that the megasquirt references when tweaking your airfuel ratio if you use ego correction. Its also used by Megalogviewer when you do fuel tuning.

haha yeah, Taras Bulba. Have you read the book about Taras Bulba?

What does afrBins2 does? Whats advTable? Is that for spark timing? When i click on the VE Analyzer on the right side there is a table called Default AFR, what does that do? mine was pretty much all set to 14.7 and just at the very top went to like 12.5 and 11.5.

You have to wire the gauge to the brown wire(or yellow, dont remember which is the gauge default wire) and reprogram the yellow one to output 0/5 10/20 voltage/afr and wire that to the megasquirt.

You should have named this thread "MS questions" or something and you would have gotten a few more helpers on board. Nobody knows you have tech questions from your title. My $.02

Good luck.

thanks for the reply. Can i reprogram the yellow wire and plug it onto the gauge? I already did all the wiring for the brown wire and it would suck to redo it all again.

Hey, i took at the "another pull" datalog.

A couple of things i noticed ( i am no expert, ask anyone hehe)

1) the CLT jumps in large increments? Mine is a lot smoother, 1 degree increments.
2) Your EGO correciton does mostly nothing but then dives to 91 near the end, dont really see a reason for that.

I ran ve analyzer using my afr targets on your data... It leaned out practically every cell except all the way up in MAP and RPMs, where it added a little..

Looks OK to me overall, but don't take MY word for it!

i just got a new laptop today and my afrbins1 table is all messed up now. i was wondering if someone could tell me what is the best way to set it up? I realize that upper right corner sells should be around 10.5 and closer to the bottom somewhere near 14.7. is that somewhat correct?

15.5 in the bottom most row, 13.0 @ 100 kpa, 11.8 at the top.

You set those numbers in your MSQ, not in MLV.
