Can my "tune" be improved? any feedback guys?

Hi guys just recently finished playing around with megasquirt thru tunerstudio and played around with the AFR. and Ve table the spark i havent touched yet. The afr table is similar to one of the tables i found on the forums for a na miata 90-93. The VE table is tuned by the "autotune" feature by the tunerstudio. my question is how can i improve? and where? i have my settings set at includeAFRtarget(at 14.7) in the General settings. Also i have a problem with my idle it seems to be running alittle high around 1100 sometimes at 1300, i havent tweaked the closed loop idle at the moment(no a/c miata) i have my idle screw set all the way in it went from 1300 to 1100-900 so its set at 900-1100rpm from idle. does having the idle screw all the way in bad? how can i lower my rpms without adjusting the idle screw? Set your idle screw up so it idles just below your target with no IAC. Consider the IAC as just adding air as needed, not as full idle control, which is what works best for me. Idle control is more about timing and fuel more than anything else.
On a non A/C car, you can have excellent idle just by tuning your own sort of feedback loop in your timing table with no IAC at all, at the expense of possibly needing a little pedal for a short time on cold startup. Edit: you have a lot of timing at idle. Reducing advance there will lower your idle speed. |

if you idle screw is all the way in and you're not idling at 500rpm, you havent tuned.

It's in startup/idle settings. Set your IACsettings to Warmup PWM first, then go to your Warmup PWM table, you'll see a dot to represent your current place in the table, and adjust the idle DC at that point. Once it idles at that point make your Warmup PWM table flat, and then tune the idle speed as the car warms up, as the table references coolant temp. |
can your completely untuned base map be improved? yes absolutely
should you do your homework and learn at least the basics so you can differentiate tuning functions from a turd on the sidwalk? yes absolutely |
