I get this error message and the dials are all flashing as if its losing and gaining the connect really quickly....

All I have done is remove the fuse and plug the PnP in, the engine was not running (despite the RPM reading)

Which one are you using?

Braineack 01-18-2008 11:52 AM

looks more like the flashed failed.

As I say I just took it out of the box and plugged it in. Is it likely the flash failed when it was made?

Braineack 01-18-2008 12:19 PM

oh no. i cant read. :) Jerry tests them all on his car before sending out.

plug it in, attach it and run portcheck.exe or whatever it's called.

Generally that error message is caused by different code in the MS than what is provided in the vehicle profile. Call DIY, they'll fix you up.

richard_ha 01-18-2008 08:08 PM

I still thinking its the serial converter, I've got access to another one tomorrow so I'll try that.

elesjuan 01-18-2008 08:43 PM

I bought an identical usb to serial cable and it does the EXACT same thing.. Won't read my LC1 wideband OR megasquirt. Waste of 4$. lol.

richard_ha 01-19-2008 03:35 AM

Excellent, thats what I wanted to hear... in a weird way.

Have you found a cheap one that does work?

cjernigan 01-19-2008 04:07 AM

The DIY autotune one obviously works well and it's relatively cheap. You can find it elsewhere online as well. I think Fry's might carry it.
I use the expensive radioshack one because i needed it bad and it's really long so that helps my situation. It's like $40 though, so def not cheap. The RS one has been perfect since i bought it. Not everyone has this experience though.

The one DIY sells is the USB 2920, available at Fry's or through Jerry. He's said in the past that he's had trouble with every USB -> serial adapter except that one.

I have an IOGear that reboots my laptop. I went PCMCIA.

richard_ha 01-20-2008 08:23 PM

I've tried it with my dads and it works fine, so borrowing that from him for a while.

cjernigan 01-20-2008 08:29 PM

I had a belkin that would reboot XP as well. Real PITA.
