diypnp ignition advance problem

how yas I have a 99 turbo miata with a diypnp. we had it on the dyno today and set the base timing fine. we then noticed as you rev it the car would read (cant remember exact figures now) 10 degrees on car and ten on tuner studio but as revs increased the timing would advance a lot more on tuner studio than it did on the car. anybody have this issue before. thanks

Did you tune the Timing Latency?

Patrick Gabbett 11-24-2015 12:02 PM

ill have to ask him, ill ring him. if the latency was incorrect would it take out a coil as one went on the dyno or is it just pure coincidence?

Braineack 11-24-2015 12:17 PM

would have nothing to do with a failed coil.

Patrick Gabbett 11-24-2015 12:19 PM

it says only to tune latency if the timing is retarding. its advancing and advancing pretty bad

If the cam and crank signals were mixed would that cause this issue

If this happens when latency is backed down to zero, I'd suspect the wrong output polarity. If cam and crank signals are swapped, it won't run.

Patrick Gabbett 11-25-2015 12:28 PM

how do I rectify the wrong output polarity?

Patrick Gabbett 11-26-2015 04:42 AM

anyone as its at my mappers now in his way and hours from home?

90 Turbo 11-26-2015 08:12 PM

Can u set it to fixed timing to drive it home and get it out of his way?

DNMakinson 11-26-2015 08:22 PM

You have said opposite things. First post said car is advancing less than TS. If that is what you mean, then the car is regarding RETARDING vs what MS is telling it to. That does sound like a latency issue.

If TS shows lots of advance, that is because your ignition table is calling for it. Fix that with the timing (ignition) table.

(Edit) Never mind did not read your post carefully and was thinking that you had the same problem I had...

You should look at this thread if you run ls2 truck coils.

next he'll tell us he was actually talking about the fuel table.

Patrick Gabbett 12-01-2015 04:14 AM

no the timing is still advancing more than even than the table is asking for.

But when set to fixed timing at 10, you see 10° with a timing light?

Then when you rev the motor -- still locked at 10° -- it increases?

when the timing is locked at 10 degrees we see 10 degrees with a timing light on the car and stays that way when reved.

Patrick Gabbett 12-01-2015 08:08 AM

yes we have synced the timing and tuned the trigger angle. that's what has us stumped hence why I asked on here. we cant figure it out

then how -- exactly -- do you know it's advancing farther than what youre demanding?

on the gauge cluster it shows the ignition advance gauge, we are referencing that with a timing light on the crank pulley

Braineack 12-01-2015 09:09 AM

...Even though you just said it stays exactly where you set it?

please leave out as much detail as possible.

Do you understand the confusion?

You just said:

when the timing is locked at 10 degrees we see 10 degrees with a timing light on the car and stays that way when reved.

but continue to state:

the timing is still advancing more than even than the table is asking for.
