Do you think a MS standalone will help with SC idle dip?

Default Do you think a MS standalone will help with SC idle dip?

I just picked up the '94 MOAB this weekend and the idle is pretty unstable. I expected this as the Miata ECU does seem to struggle with an intercooled SC. I will say the car absolutely rocks and it is going to be a fun project car to play with.

It seems many people want to use the MS in parallel to keep the stock idle. In my case I am considering a MSPNP to get better control over the idle (as well as eliminating the AFPR).

Whatcha think, will an MS standalone provide better idle control with a SC?

MS will have better control over everything. Go for it.

It has the ability, but it's up to you to dial it in.

It gives you the ability to MAKE it idle solidly. Like Ben said, it's not magic, but it can (pretty easily IMO) be done.

Thats all I'm looking for is that it has the ability. I do not believe the stock ECU will provide the abilty for a decent idle with an intercooler.

Turboing on a stock ECU is like trying to divorce your wife: You just keep trying to add things to the deal, keep sweetening that pot, and at the end of the day you have spent so much money that you should have just hired a PI to prove she was cheating on you and taken everything from her (i.e. bought a Megasquirt).

Great analogy Just one point, this car has a SC with an intercooler. It has been my experience that a SC ***** up your idle a lot more than a turbo.

Your point is still valid

Have you asked Bill (Former 510Man) how he got his intercooled SC with 240whp to run well? No idle issues there. Gary at Trackdog would also be a good resource.

Yes, Bill truly believes it is the BRP R4 intake manifold that makes a difference. However, the MOAB is a coldside twin screw, so that IM won't work. I just picked up the car, so I am sure I have several options, but I do believe a standalone will be key to any of the options.

I was going to suggest moving the throttle body to stock location, but remembered you can't do that with a cold side kit.

Yah, it sure can't hurt. The RRFPR isn't much of a management device. Have fun with the new toy. BTW what throttle body are you running?

I installed an MSPNP on a JRSC car today. His idle droop issues are gone. Certainly not a intercooled hotside, but it's something.

Doesn't BEGi have some ideas on taming the idle with their SC?
