Ebc Attempting To Run More Boost

Okay Heres The Thing Before Ms I Had A Manual Boost Controller Set At 5psi Now That I Have Ms And Can Fine Tune The Afr I Want To Run About 6.5psi Well The Kpa Targets I Have Set Pretty High Like
Starting At 100 Then To 60 At About 3000 Rpm Well If I Change That It Doesnt Affect The Boost If I Turn Them All Up To 100 I Still Get 5psi???? Do I Need To Tighten The Wastegate Up???? ALSO MY AUTO TUNE MIGHT NOT BE WORKING RIGHT? WHEN I TURN IT ON IT SAYS CONNECTED TO CONTROLLER AND THE GREEN AND RED TARGET THINGS MOVE AROUND THE GRID AND SOMETIMES IT SAYS AUTO CORRECTION-0% IT NEVER GOES TO ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT TARGET OUT OF RANGE??? DOES THAT MEAN ITS NOT WORKING?? OHH YEA AND ALSO DO I WANT MS TO MAKE O2 CORRECTIONS WHILE IN BOOST? IF SO OR NOT HOW DO I CHANGE TO FIX?

cardriverx 12-31-2007 01:53 AM

ok, 100 kpa is atmosphere, 0psi. 6.5 psi would be about 145 KPA. So set it for 145 kpa and see where that takes you. Also, take off your manuel boost controller if its still on there.

turbobluemiata 12-31-2007 01:57 AM

Ohh I Thought I Read Somewhere That 100 Was Full Boost???? My Bad Thanks Alot For The Quick Reply!

still no change i changed all my boost control settings as it shows in the other thread and i changed the boost duty target table and still i get 5.5 psi? i put it at 100 til 3000 rpm and then to 40 after that but still nothing when im driving it doesnt even show more than 10% tps????

cjernigan 01-02-2008 02:36 PM

Did you calibrate your TPS?

Braineack 01-02-2008 02:42 PM

are you changing the kPa targets table or the DC% table?

His car is a 91, no linear TPS.

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 09:06 PM

well at first i was changing the kpa target but then the guy with the eskimo avatar said to use the dc table so i did but it wont go over 5 psi no matter what its set at and the tps side of the chart stays at the bottom??

Braineack 01-02-2008 09:15 PM

the solenoid is connected to a 12v source and then back to the MS to the wire I told you (blue/wht I think)?

you hooked it up correctly to the wastegate line? from source into solenoid on the single port side, exit through the side with the filter, into the wastgate.

try these targets;;; turn your overboost protection on to 8psi or something. if you hit a rev limiter when you give it gas it's working.

double check you burned js2 to boost control.

paul 01-02-2008 09:20 PM

take screen shots of your boost duty settings page.

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 09:38 PM

ouble check you burned js2 to boost control.???? whats that and my boost control parameters look like that exactly except the ambient pressure on mine is 98? the duty cycle thing looks almost like that with the numbers lower cuz i dont want as much boost but even upping the number it doesnt change neither does the highlighted green cell in the tps side but the rpm and numbers change?

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 09:39 PM

ohh yea and i dont know how to take screenshots!???

paul 01-02-2008 09:43 PM

your car doesn't have a variable TPS. its off or its on. read this page and the link cited https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11199

it's all i needed to figure out my EBC this weekend

Braineack 01-02-2008 09:55 PM

his car is neither on or off, his MS doesn't see the TPS signal at all.

turboblue, the solenoid is hooked up correctly? JS2 is set for boost control under outputs?

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 10:37 PM

yea its hooked up right the red wire to switched 12v and ground to green/wht it shows in megatune output1/boost is highlighted green what does js2 stand for????

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 10:44 PM

the thread that he said got him goin with ebc it says for 90-93 to make all the tps% to 50%??? should I or leave it where it is

Braineack 01-02-2008 11:07 PM

js2 is the location on the mother board where the input is.

leave the TPS% as I posted.

the only thing I can think is the connection is somehow messed up. which 12v source did you use? how did you install the solenoid.

can you tap the ground wire to the frame and make sure the valve clicks/closes.

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 11:07 PM

when i go to megatune "more settings" then "outputs" it says x4/js2 then its off and greyed out??

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 11:10 PM

i used the blue spade by the headlight like you said and when i ground it to the frame how do i get it to click???

Braineack 01-02-2008 11:34 PM

its under codebase options and outputs under basic settings.

tapping the ground to the frame (or ground) will cause the solenoid to close, you'll hear it click. i wanna make sure it's working.

turbobluemiata 01-02-2008 11:39 PM

when i go to codebase it says js2 is boost control but its like -10 degrees outside so ill check tomm

turbobluemiata 01-04-2008 12:56 AM

okay when i connected the laptop today and turned the key i see that output1/boost at the bottom "isnt" highlighted green like i had thought the one next to it is does that mean it isnt getting power? and didnt have time to ground it to hear for clicking but have all sat and sunday to check that

Braineack 01-04-2008 09:22 AM

I've never really paid attention to that green highlighted box, so i cant tell you if it should light. the car will have to be on however, because it activates at a minimum of 100RPM.

the wiring should be good. the only thing I can think of is maybe a MICA insulator needs to be installed under the FET itself. I have not confirmed if this is the case however.

but confirm the solenoid itself does work, then we know where to start going from there.

turbobluemiata 01-04-2008 09:21 PM

so i need to start the car and ground it and listen for it to click?

Braineack 01-04-2008 10:00 PM

read my post i just posted in this section. i think i need you to buy a little insulator and put it under the transistor that runs the solenoid.

pick up a MICA insulator at radio shack, and then give me a call when you have a chance and ill walk you through what you'll need to do.

pm your email and ill send my number.

turbobluemiata 01-04-2008 10:43 PM

okay how hard is this and how long will it take do i need to remove the ms??

Braineack 01-04-2008 10:50 PM

yeah you gotta open it up. I posted about it.

you'll ahve to open the MS up and unscrew the FET, then put the insulator inplace and screw the FET back in place on top of it.

shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. you need a small pair of pliers and a screwdriver.

cjernigan 01-04-2008 10:51 PM

It's easy. Remove the screws from the case. Remove the screw from the FET. Coat mica with thermal paste(should be enough on the fet that you can use what you have. Install under FET making sure it's not contacting the leads of the FET itself

edit: too bad i type slow sometimes

turbobluemiata 01-04-2008 10:55 PM

Okay wow im not an electronic genius so ill probaly need help with this cuz i dont know what a fet is? or a mica insulator?

Braineack 01-04-2008 10:58 PM

see my other post that i started about this. ill do a little writeup for you.
