Default Gauge display on Android with OTG adapter?

I understand that I can get ShadowDash MS or ShadowLogger MS to display data (coolant temp and such) on my Android phone via Bluetooth. Has anyone connected via OTG adapter (that's mini-USB to USB) instead? If so, does it work on both, Dash and Logger and are there any extra steps needed? Currently I have RS-232 going to USB adapter to laptop. Need more convenient way to see the data as I'm driving.

Thanks in advance!

Shadow dash blows, use msdroid.

Shadow dash didn't used to do USB otg, but it might now.

Thanks!

MSDroid is Bluetooth only, no cable interface at all?

ShadowDash MS will work just fine via OTG USB for gauges and data logging (ShadowLogger is outdated and no longer needed). I've been running this exact setup with a Nexus 7 tablet without any issues. Very handy tool to have if you also install MSDroid like deezums mentioned.

Edit: MSDroid can communicate through USB, too.

Thanks again! Just to make sure - we're talking about MS2 here, not MS3. Still fine for OTG interface, right?

It looks like this is what you need. From my understanding MS2/3 uses the same protocol on the RS232, but MS1 is different (baud rate?)

I don't believe I'll need that cable. Already have RS232-to-USB adapter from EFI, just need to go USB to Mini USB. Which OTG cable will do (ordered one, should be here shortly).

I've read somewhere that only MS3 might work with cable into the Android device, not MS1 or MS2 which might be Bluetooth only. With more research, it appears that they were talking about built-in FTDI in MS3 vs. the external RS232 to USB adapter for MS2 and MS1, which I have. Will try it when cable arrives and report.

tired OTG cable plugged between Serial-USB interface and my Samsung S6. Turned on MSDroid - nothing. OTG cable is good, plugging a memory stick into it pops the file manager on teh phone with contents of the stick.

So, where to look to connect MSDroid to S6?

Default is bluetooth, you need to go into app settings and change it to USB only. You should be able to set it so it atuo-launches msdroid as soon as you plug in the OTG cable.

Thanks!

It was set to "Any". I've set it to USB only and Autoconnect. We'll see if that changes things.

A little update. Same effect so far - the MSDroid app starts on my phone, the gauges come up but nothing is moving, so I don't think there's any communication with the MS.

You used to have to find the ECU defenitions in your tunerstudio project folder and copy them over to the megasquirt, so it knew what data went to which gauge and all that. They updated it to be idiot-proof over the last year, it pulls definitions on it's own if your phone has internet. It used to not work if it couldn't load the right definitions for the megasquirt it's plugged into though, I don't know but that's the hardest thing I had to do to make it work. No idea why you can't get it.

Not sure, guess you'll have to mess with it like I did. It will work though,

My TunerStudio works just fine. It's the MSDroid on the phone that doesn't seem to connect.
