Which guide to follow for a DIY MS2? The one in the forum says to not use it.

Which guide to follow for a DIY MS2? The one in the forum says to not use it.
Hello guys,
I have this MS2 board that was setup for ITBs in a Fiat I no longer have, and I'm thinking of following a guide step by step to check what components I need to change to get it ready for my 90's 1.6. This was setup to get signal from VR and I had setup this weird circuit in the proto for it to work with a specific coil, I don't even remember what it did but it includes a TC4427 and it sent the signal to the igniter of that coil I had.
My main goal is achieve better gas mileage on highway and nice power on top if it can get any better, eventually modding this **** to get stupid things like powershifting and launch control for when I go turbo or some ****.
I checked the guide in the forum but it says to not follow those instructions because they are old.
I also found this: Megasquirt 2 Assembly - Miata Turbo FAQ which talks about the better ignition mod from Joe P which I was already thinking of doing. Is this a good guide to follow?
If not the other route is to follow the msextra assembly guide with the differences for the Miata I guess?
