Okay so i got the MAP line run to the MSpnp and got my harness all plugged into it and stuff. i go to the com selection cause obviously doesnt work first try with AFM and try ALL ports in my device manager and none work... the MS is illuminated and my key is in the II position. My laptop is a vaio and i had to go to fry's and buy a adapter so that the MS wire would plug into my laptop (2 male pieces) im not sure if thats blocking it. then i searched to find new comp ports and got port #4, but the damn com said it was working but it may not work properly. i tried all the COM's and tested em all of them said TRY AGAIN. its 9 pm and i got places to go soon. can anyone give me some sort of advice. i know its not rocket science but i cant figure this out to save my life. HELP HELP HELp

 

I don't know what adapter pieces you got, but they may need drivers installed.
Also in MEGATUNE:COMMUNICATIONS:SETTINGS set the SERIAL DATA RATE to 9600

But I think your problem has to do with the fact that you didn't load any of the drivers you need.

 

Are you using XP? If so, try this:

To find out what port the USB adapter is using, right-click My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager at the left, then scroll down the right hand column until you find the entry that says "Ports (COM & LPT)". Click the plus sign next to it. You should see an entry that looks like "USB Serial Port (COMx)" where x is the number of the port it has grabbed.

If it's grabbed a port number higher than 4, I recommend changing it to a lower number. Double-click the USB Serial Port item. Then select the Port Settings tab at the top of the box that pops up and click the button marked Advanced. You will see a new screen where you can specify the COM port number; set it to a number less than 5 that is not already in use. Then click OK to close that screen, and OK to close the Properties box. This will set your USB adapter to a lower port number.

Also, like Ben said, you may need to get the drivers for the adapter installed.

 

im using Vista... should i try the same thing

 

i just read your post and it selected com4. except it said that the device is not working properly. the driver was updated to the most current and still had a ! next to it any sugjestions?

 

then the driver isn't working properly, update the drivers again.

 

the driver is updated to the most current software available. i deleted the one that was iffy and tried it again and now i cant get that one to show up... im startin to think my connecter might be bad...

I go to the Ports (COM & LPT) and this is the list it gives me
BT Port (COM10)
BT Port (COM11)
BT Port (COM12)
BT Port (COM13)
BT Port (COM14)
followed by 20,21,22 and then 6 and 7

 

that particular com port will only show up if whatever the device is is plugged in.

search the drivers for anymore large Yellow exlamations...if you see any at all something is not installed correctly and is preventing you from allowing it to connect.

Seriously for some reason usb adapter drivers are a PITA, it's not just you.

 

is the megatune software ment to run on windows Vista? cause it says it only goes 2 XP

looks like he had to do some "tweaking" with vista to get it to recognize. and then some more to get it running... oh de joy. im going to be putting MS in my closet untill i can figure this dumb **** out!

the question at hand is, why are you running vista?

 

thats what came with the laptop and... i dont have anything else =(

 

one of the reasons why I don't run vista is that it isn't compatible with a lot of the software I have to use for work.

it's also expensive and a resource hog.

the drivers for the USB/serial adapter you're using may not be vista compatible.

 

Megatune is compatible with Vista, but a lot of the USB adapter drivers out there aren't. I suspect that's the issue.

 

Defiantely the issue, Vista is a PITA, I install my drivers (it's an executable so I can't point vista directly at it). and despite it stating a successful install the adapter isn't recognised when I go to use it.

Pah, it looks nice but it's hard work!

 

okay so i figured out why the ports werent working. they were all Bluetooth. i headed to Fry's electroics and picked myself up a usb-serial converter for 30 bucks. and got it for 10 cause the lady thought i gave her 3 20's. her fault :gay: came back home istalled the driver then went on the net and updated it and SUCESS!! i removed the fuse and plugged in the MAP line and fired her up. THE TIMING WAS WAY OFF IT WOULD BARLY RUN i was like crap what the hell. i tried to adjust the spark iming but the 'Spark' section of MT was not accesiable as well as a few others. Next step?? Help??

 

sounds like you havent setup the mega configurator to msnse.

 

probably the wrong code variant?


go to configurator > car1 > setting > code_variant

use the pull doen bar for: #set MSNS_EXTRA "James Murray and Phil Ringwood's MSnS extensions"

 

you know whats funny. VISTA SUCKS ***. i did what you said to do and guess what it wont let me over write it. THANK YOU MICROSOFT FOR CREATING PROB THE CRAPPIEST OS EVER . Has anyone found a way around this PITA
