Help, stranded and lost!
So I have been running my turbo 01 miata for a week now, getting it tuned in just fine. Changed the injectors today so I could add more boost and I've been driving around on auto tune all day. As I got up closer to 10 psi the engine cut out like it had the last couple days when I got it up that high. I thought it was the injectors but apparently not. So now I'm stranded, the ecu won't connect to my laptop, laptop can't find the ecu, it cranks but won't fire, when it died before I would turn it off and then it would start back up, now it's dead... It's an "ms2 enhanced 01-05 miata". Could it be corrupt firmware? Where can I find that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Update, I found firmware but when I try to dl to the ecu it won't return any data. Sent Q and got 0 bytes back. I ran troubleshooting on my port but that didn't help either. Any ideas?
well... so who's good with circuit boards? I don't see anything physically, I plugged it back in and didn't notice any components warm to the touch, tried connecting again and it still won't still nothing warming up. no continuity from pin 28 to pin 1 (12v-gnd)... I guess I can try to go through all of the components but I'm not super knowledgeable on that, do I need to remove some of them to test them properly? Is there someone on here who is good with that stuff and would have the time to troubleshoot my board?
Caps look good. Tested doids and transistors, they seem good. No physical damage noticeable.. Don't have an oscilloscope so I'm trying to figure out how to check the processors.

nevermind, pulled it and it tested good. However, on the board where it initially read 0V I have continuity even after cleaning all the solder off it. should that be the case?

so before I break my bank account... can someone confirm my situation sounds like the daughter board/cpu would be the issue with the ecu?

Do you have the correct voltage at the pin header where the daughter card mounts? The test pins and voltages are in the assembly guide in the manual on msextra.com. If you have correct voltage, then plug in daughter card and can't get any response, then probably daughter card issue. If the voltages don't check out, then PCB issue.
So it was the cpu! installed a new one and we're back up and running. ground looks good with full continuity. Thank you for your help. I'm not sure what caused it to die, maybe old age?
And now new issues. From what I can find it would seem my ecu initially came with unique firmware to control the extra boards in there and what not... I installed the latest ms2 firmware I could find but I lost some features in doing so. Biggest issue now though is the alternator isn't charging, which it was before just fine, I belive there's a command not being sent from the ecu but I'm not sure where to adjust that or how to fix it.
That looks like an MSLabs MS2. I know for certain time frames and versions Reverant was using custom made firmware. So you will most likely need to email him and get his firmware to reflash with.
Ok... It is, I did, waiting for a reply. There's a race tomorrow I wanted to make, is there any way to trick the alt into charging? I would imagine it's a varied command so a constant signal would just make it keep climbing in voltage output?
ok, yeah, I started looking into that. I don't suppose anyone else has the firmware floating around somewhere? sucks to have to go through all that when I just need to activate an existing circuit in my ms2e. Does Reverant have an archive or website where he has his firmware saved?
Anyone? There must be someone with a copy of this firmware.. It's getting to be too late here soon, two races missed because of this ecu now... Is reverent around anymore? How do you get in touch with him?

Managed to find the website, and that's the email I contacted already, but it looks kinda dead...
http://trackspeedengineering.com is another one I came across that may have dealt with these ecu's, but they don't have the firmware apparently...
Any other ideas?

Good luck with that, I have one of his ones that need the special firmware, and he just gave me the link to the publicly available firmware rather then their special code, have had nothing but issues with it since I do not have the code for the special mods he made.
