How do i Modify my DIY MS Standalone Harness for Parallel fans???

From my under standing i can just tap a wire off my cooling fan to the pin that triggers the A/C fan so they will both come on when my preset coolant temp is reached. One problem, IDK which wire to tap into and what pin to send it to. I have a 90 1.6L with standalone braineack MS. Thanks and pictures speak 1000 words or however it goes.

the main fan comes on now right?

so in the bay, take the ground from the a/c and tap it into the ground from the cooling fan....the end.

you can do it off the harness, its easy.

just jumper the fan wire on the MS harness to the pin on the MS harness that controls the AC fan. I did it this way and works really well. That way if you go back to stock your fans are independent.

I have to look at which pin the AC fan is again. Its right around the regular fan pin though.

Ill pull mine out later and check it for you

Can he just jumpers 1Q and 1R? The 1.6 diagrams are weird compared to the nice easy to read 1.8 diagrams i'm used to.

he could if that is the correct pin. I am just not sure which pin i did it to on mine. I cant remember

jumping 1R is the cooling fan relay. 1Q is just the thermoswitch. But would still only trigger the cooling fan, not the a/c fan, which is triggered by the a/c relay. 1J might trigger it.

I read of that option but when Paul and I talked about we concluded that running two fans off a relay made for one could cause some problems down the line. If i could trigger the A/C Fan Relay by jumping the harness than well, I have two fans and a relay for each.

thanks scott... My car is in pieces right now and the rad or fan isn't even in the car so as soon as i test it I'll make a mini write-up based on your facts.

1J looks like the one on my harness. Just run a wire from the existing fan wire to 1J.

MikeRiv87 04-08-2008 12:16 PM

So I'm basically jumping 1R (cooling fan relay) to 1J (A/C Fan Relay)

Got It!

Braineack 04-08-2008 12:39 PM

let me know how this works, cause if it does ill remove my parallel fan mod and do this instead myself.

MikeRiv87 04-08-2008 02:45 PM

you got... I may just try and run the 1J a/c fan relay wire to ground and see if the fan turns on, if it does then I'll jumper the wires and test again. Just going to take that extra step in effort to not fry my MS for one reason or another.

It works! 1j to 1R for dual Fan mod...

does the a/c turn the main fan on? curious.

MikeRiv87 05-02-2008 08:48 PM

no A/c standalone MS built by some guy Braineack :hsugh:

Braineack 05-02-2008 08:59 PM

ah. :bang:

I'm curious if I do the same, that if I turn the a/c on it will trigger both, because id rather have it this way then the two fans wired together.

MikeRiv87 05-02-2008 09:53 PM

If they both turn on with the a/c when the main fan otherwise wouldn't be on then the only downfall would be colder a/c...
