Sweet, thanks!

Well I cant find it but anyway just read over the how to in the sticky. Basically run the car in open loop and and set your timing to in the area you want to idle at between 12-15 degrees. once you do that turn your idle screw down until you reach your target and then add or remove fuel to get a healthy idle speed and afr. Once you do that lock in the fuel cells at your idle area and go run VEAL. Then tune closed loop PID(look for sticky or reference msextra manual) then go and run VEAL again. Thats a pretty quick and dirty version IMHO that hornetball had a post a while back in some guys build thread that was very detailed and makes it super clear for the newest of newbs.

Edit when I say set timing I mean adjust your ignition map DO NOT set off of the CAS this will fuck up your calibration

Well I'll be damned, I got it to idle. Its not perfect yet but we are getting there.
my fuel numbers all seem low from others that I have seen on here. Is this due to my spark table? Is it super weak and power robbing?

A little more searching tells me that this is the weakest timing map ever seen by mankind.
New question about the idle though... It idles in the 45-50 kpa range wich seems much higher than most. where do I go from here?

find the air leak or tune your idle valve settings to close more and draw more vacuum?

and yes, not only is your spark table weak, but it appears to be inverted. completely wrong

ryansmoneypit 04-13-2014 01:54 PM

inverted?

After anther look, it actually idles at 60-65 kpa.

when I follow the idle valve test, I get vary different results than hornetballs write up. if i start at 100 the engine will not idle. Bring it down to 96 and i get the super high idle(whatever, I can deal with that) Its when I come down to the 30's, he says that I should continue to drop the number until it no longer changes the idle. I can kill the engine if I continue to lower it. it dies around 15 I think.

well i had the wrong map sensor setting. switched it to the 4250 and now it certainly idles at 40-45 kpa. I went through the idle setting sequence two more times. I sprayed carb cleaner all over and have no obvious leaks. I FUCKING QUIT. In refusal of spending anymore of my free time screwing around with something that I clearly do not understand, how much do I have to pay to get someone to do this for me?
The fee must include telling me what I had wrong.

I couldn't leave it alone. This MegaSquirt is like a scab and I'm a super tweeker who can't stop scratching it.
I gave up on the idle again for now and went for the spark and fuel maps instead. It runs really well although its hard to remember how it was on the stock computer (its been months). I guess I need to go back to the idle issue then buy some time on a dyno..
