Default Installed New Pump and Injectors won't run/idle

I thought this was going to be fairly easy, but again I was wrong. I installed a Walbro 255, and a set of 1.8 injectors. The car will start, and run for about two seconds, and then die. I have to let it sit for a while, and then it will do the exact same thing. I can here the pump when I turn on the ignition, but I don't think I hear it when the cars trying to run. the system should be primed, based on how many times I've tried this, and the pump relay is clearly in place. The injectors are seated, and plugged in, the FPR is also connected. I'm running a MS PNP with the same map I used before the new parts. Anyone have any ideas?

Does it run when you give it gas? Sounds kind of like a vacuum leak, which can be at the base of the injectors. Check to see that the little rubber grommet is in place.

I went back to the base Map, putting in settings for my cops timing, and wideband, then I went through the fuel calculator for the new injectors. Its a little better, but it still won't run for more than a few seconds.

I can just see the top of the grommets (Rubber part) on the injectors. When I gave it immediately died, and I can hear the pump while the car is running, and it is very loud, but that doesn't bother me.

Considering I'm running 1.8 injectors with the 255lph pump could the mixture of the two additional fuel and pressure be the problem. The car runs for about 4 seconds unless I touch the throttle. If I barely press it, the car dies, and I have to wait 5 to 10 minutes to give it a not start attempt.

I put the old injectors back in, and the car starts, and idles although a little rough, I don't know if thats because of pressure, or because I broke my pcv valve. I Just put the got back with a new pcv valve, and injectors seals since one of my original seals was bad. Any idea of what might need to be changed tuning wise to keep the car running with the 1.8 injectors?

I have heard that the 255 walbro is just too much and makes the car idle like ****. so im thinking its your walbro pump.

I don't think so, only because I put the stock injectors back on, and the car ran and idled. It does not idle with the 265's

You are running the same map for the stock injectors with the 265 injectors installed. That could lead to flooding. I'm just going by what your first post and this last post says.

I would think thats part of the problem, but I don't know how much fuel to remove, or if just adjusting the ve table will fix this. I put the 1.8's injectors back in again, and the same scenario happen, the car starts for a few seconds then dies. I adjusted the fuel requirements under engine constants, and toyed with the fuel supply at what should be idle, but so far nothing. I'm sure this is just tuning but i'm unsure where to begin on this. I looked at the PW tables for the 1.8 to see if that would help, and it very close to the 1.6 at idle. The 1.8 default ve table would surely flood the engine.

Check your fuel pressure at the pump. I had a similar issue where my injectors would be maxing out when they shouldnt be.

Turns out my fuel pump had a leak right where it seats into the hole.

Nope I'm saying it won't run with the tan tops(1.8's) in using the map I normally use for the blue tops(1.6's) the only change i've made to the map is setting up the fuel requirements for the tan tops. I tired the 1.8 injectors with the 1.6 injector requirements, and again the car didn't run. However the car does run when I put the blue tops back in.

sbkcocker499,

Do you mean the pump was leaking where it fits into the pipe that it slots into. I was having an issue with the isolator that fits at the bottom of the pump. If it didn't fit properly could that be the problem. I wouldn't have thought so because it runs with the 1.6 injectors, but if could be the cause I'll pull it out and recheck it just ot make sure.

Turns out my fuel pump had a leak right where it seats into the hole.

hmm That is strange because I know you can run a 100% stock 1.6l with 1.8l injectors and have no problem. Whit what you are saying I still think its some thing to do with the new fuel pump. like sbkcocker499 said check for that leak and check the pressure at the top of the tank.

i have had problems like this before with the old 1.6L fuel pickup tubes and how the pump goes into it with that O-ring. Once I came across this whenever the person didn't put that bracket back on the bottom of the pump to hold it in place. It drove fine for about 200 miles, then it slipped down. That person was me That would be the first place I would look.

The only difference 1.6 injectors and 1.8 is that the 1.8's will run a tad richer with the same fuel table. I know its the fuel pump not seating properly.

Ok I freely admit I suck at most things mechanical, but prayer is my friend! So after a little prayer, I examined the old pump to see if anything looked different, and I noticed that the nozzle was a little different. I realized I hadn't removed the sleave from the oem pump. "As usual user error". The car seems to be idling pretty strong, and after I get everything buttoned up I'm going to take the car for a drive.

If idle is any indicator the pump or injectors may have been the case of my other MS issues. I'll update after I get back.
