Default 99 with questions

ok so ive tried searching and couldnt find enough info to satisfy me. is it able to control our alternators on a 99+. and what about the ignition is it a wasted spark setup or sequential. and the fuel injection how is it controlled also. i am really confused about the different versions also and which is better. i have more questions but ill just start with these. ive been researching it for the last couple of hours but am still confused. all help would be appreciated. thanks!!!

I'm not as cool as Chad but...

1) So far no. Some have swapped in NA alternators most just allow the stock ECU to control fans and Alt.
2) wasted spark
3) fuel is sequential on a stock 99 but MS only does 2 bank batch.
4) right now MS(1) Spark n Extra is better (yes, my signature says 2 but, trust me, 1 is currently better)

No problem. His next question will probably be the DIY Miata mods or something Spark n Extra related and I won't have a clue. I had to get in early if I was going to look smart.

And Chad really is cooler than me...

I am running MSI V3.0 with DIYautotune mods and a '97 CAS. You will need a CAS from a 94-97, you can use a 90-93(optical) but the 94-97(magnetic) is a better unit. Megasquirt cannot control the NB alternator yet. I wired megasquirt in parallel with my stock ECU so that I control spark, fuel, and idle. Leaving the alternator, A/C, Fans, and emmissions solenoid for the charcoal cannister. You can wire it in parallel, which means you cut the wires going to the stock ecu so that MS is in full control because it cannot just modify a signal as it is a standalone ECU. You can do this by cutting the stock harness and using bullet connectors or you can use a patch harness to cut into. The tuning of megasquirt has been done and your '99 is no special case when wired parallel. If you wanted to go full standalone it can be done but is going to take more work than you need to put into it. That will include an NA alternator and A/C control if needed as well as VICS control which isn't that hard.

What do you want to use this car for and what mods to the motor do you plan to do?
Arga really is a badass considering he does all that crazy cool stuff with MSII. I am no pioneer.

Like arga said.
Wasted Spark
Batch Fuel Injection
MSI will rock your world for the time being, while MSIISE is being fine tuned.

I Echo what everyone else has said, but will also add that a couple of hours research is no-where near enough.

I researched MS for about 6 weeks before even posting my first question....

so if i use the earlier CAS can i get rid of my current CAS on the front of the cam cover and use adjustable cam gears? or does it still use that as an input.

You can remove the current CAS, yes.

all of it, now it can be used as a complete standalone so i go to read up on all that stuff and it confuses me even more. I'll start reading one thing, then it says something about this other thing so i go read that as well, then i go back and finish reading the other thing. Im just in general not that great with wiring or stuff like that.

Welcome to open source.

Start with the basics- is there any specific part of it that you don't understand? Do you have any specific questions?
